I was persuaded to go to Rick Stein’s fish and chip restaurant, in Falmouth, last night. £12.50 for fish and chips, which included a spoonful of mushy peas but no bread and butter and no cup of tea. Place was full. Not an experience I will be repeating any day soon!

I thought it was worse than Ramsdens. total rip off. I like quality food and will pay for it but my experience there was not one of quality.

Despite living near Harry Ramsdens flagship/original chip shop for thirty five years, I have yet to sample fish and chips from there.

I ate at the Rick Stein Fish and Chip shop on the harbour wall in Padstow about 5 years ago and it was without doubt the best F&C that I've ever eaten, and the man himself happened to be in there at the time.

It's sad that for a man who's evidently already minted, he will risk tarnishing his reputation by creating more and more outlets where he ultimately loses control of quality. So many have been there before where they've expanded too widely and then had to close down some or all of them as they've lost control (Gordon Ramsey, Anthony Worrell-Thompson, JC Novelli, Marco Pierre White) and my heart bleeds for none of them!

the padstow one is top notch! love it in there. its great after a nice muddy slog into bodmin and back on the camel trail (it was raining at the bodmin end as usual!!)

my local chippy in Roche is amazing though! and the chinese in Bugle is one of the better ones ive sampled

£12.50 isnt much for a meal in a sit down restuarant.

If you want cheaper fish and chips then get a take away!

my local chippy restaurant (a case of the chip shop got bored and bought the vacant cafe next door) costs the same, for two people including the bread and cups of tea. Very nice it is too.

We used to go to Harry Ramsdens in Nottingham as a treat (we lived in Leicester) before they really exploded, and enjoyed it.

But the chippie down the road from my Mum is just as good, and serves fish portions the size of whales! (Or sometimes, Wales!)

They also have a sit-in restaurant, with fantastically naff Greek decor, and a huge concrete statue of a Hercules-type man holding a fish in one hand and a club in the other....

You lot are making me feel hungry as it's been a very long time since I've even seen a fish and chip shop let alone sampled the food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a fish shop not too far from where we used to live

I went to it when I was still at School (I'm 47 now), & until about 10 years ago, she only sold Fish, Chips & Fish-Cakes!!
Then she diversified by offering Mushy Peas, & Curry Sauce!

I think that speaks volumes for the quality of what was sold?

And, even with 3 others within walking distance, there always seemed to be queues outside

'Annies' on Leeds Road (A61) at Outwood - just to the north of Wakefield

River cottage canteen is a few miles away at Axminster and i have been in a few times but its overpriced, although the food is ok. If i want to eat out then i will either go to the local chinese or The Clock Tower at Sidmouth.
