Despite living near Harry Ramsdens flagship/original chip shop for thirty five years, I have yet to sample fish and chips from there.
Didn't it get shut down a few years ago? ...Never been either, we tried a few times but were put off by the queue to get in.

Had very nice fish n chips at the Waggon and Horses in Oxspring on saturday, only £9.50 for a very nice sit down restauranty experience.
Favourite is at the side of the docks at Bridlington, although the surroundings are a damn sight cooler.

When I was a young teen, on a Wednesday and Thursday night I used to take a shopping trolley round the houses to collect old newspapers for the local chippy. We used to get 50p for each shopping trolley full of papers and at the end of the evening a bag of chips. If we were lucky we used to also get the fried dregs from the bottom of the fryer...lovely all covered in vinegar.

Can't beat the Magpie in Whitby.

Oh yes, possibly the best but you usually have to queue up it is that good. And, it is a nice ride up the old railway track from Scarborough (about 20 miles) uphill to Ravenscar but a decent gentle ride to go to the chippy

That's it!! I'm going to see if the local chippy is open yet for lunch!

Me too - feel like getting some on the way home from work now after reading this thread! Make a change from all the chocolate ...

Cave Street chippy for us - best one in Hull (and we've tried oodles of them over the years with varying result from not very good to chuck-it-straight-in-the-kitchen-bin!!).

You are nearly right. It was jettisoned in February by the company that bought the Harry Ramsden's Franchising operation and was rescued by The Wetherby Whaler, a local-ish chip shop chain from Wetherby/Tadcaster

The best fish and chips in the universe however are found in a ginnel at the bottom of the hill at Robin Hoods Bay.

Edit: Just seen Leedsbusdrivers response that I've sort of duplicated unwittingly. Still there's a different spin in my response.
