Mackerel once in a while for a change if you are looking for an "oily" fish
Takes some beating does a nice fresh Mackerel......nicely grilled.

Way back I used to catch them using a fishing rod and feathers from a boat ..... Brighouse Bay just up from Kirkcudbright :smile:. Cook them on the shore in a pan :smile:
When we had a caravan I would (like you) go out on my kayak.....catch some....then bbq them on the beach. A taste never forgotten.

Last evening we went out for a meal and I had whole seabreem, I know some folks don't like wish with it's head and tail on but it doesn't bother me. Trouble is we cannot get decent fish around here so I normally choose fish when out for a meal.

Mackerel, trout, tuna :okay:
 
I'm not that keen on fish, I don't mind tuna in a tin or fish in a finger.

Fish is fabulous food. Lucky to have worked in a decent fish restauarant kitchen as a student, and saw all the great fish being cooked all manner of classic ways. Monkfish tails; whole bream (black, red and gilt head, with latter being tastiest) lemon sole; John Dory; so many tasty treats. Find a good fishmonger - there are plenty who work from vans and deliver from harbour to your door - and cook gently and with great care following a well tried recipe. (At Elizabeth David’s Table by ED has a number of good fish recipes).

Trout. Even 'fresh' from the supermarket its nice. In its simplest form, pan fry in butter, dont' overcook and serve. A lovely mild but unique flavour...just lovely.

I love fish and binge on it when on holiday.
At home, holidays at Weymouth, the highlight was cooking rod caught mackerel off the harbour wall. Grilled, simple, good for you, delicious.
