I think you're being over-sensitive Danny. These are women who are at the peak of their fitness and must be proud of their physical condition and appearance. By running around in sportswear they have to accept that they will be photographed and their pictures will appear in the media. It's only the sadly suppressed who go around in purdah.

If your daughter or partner had been in that race, I wonder if you would have been happy if strange man had taken fairly intimate pictures of them and posted them on the internet?

Ah Hello Danny,
Sorry, I have been busy this morning (for once!).
In response, I might say that no, I wouldn't mind if my daughter, or son had exercised choice as an adult. I am certainly not going to be a policeman when it comes to things like this - I just happen to know where to 'draw the line'. If you cannot distinguish that 'line' then it is you who has to ask the question of yourself.
I might operate tongue in cheek, but it's all done 'in the best possible taste'!

Besides, it was a public place (a bit like outside a flashy celeb restaurant would be 'a public place') and my intentions were to try and take some shots of the day - as they always are.

My leg was the nicest anyway IMHO - even if the camera slipped!

Take it to P&L if there is genuine concern, but you need to, you need to ...get out on your bike! ;)

I was actually not in the least bothered by your OP, which I recognised was tongue in cheek, and had a whole range of photos.

However I do think that some of the subsequent responses, which choose to focus in on just one photo, were verging on the prurient. The women you photographed may well not care less about the comments that were made, but there will be young women who could be put off from participating in public sport if they think they are going to be subject to the kinds of comments seen in this thread.

And I am happy to agree that you have a very fine leg.

The woman who came in third was from Harrow AC, which is the contemporary version of the Athletics Club founded by the school I went to...there was a smidgeon of 'pride' when I heard the result. I watched it for quite a while, and there were still groups of runners challenging each other, totally spent, on the approach to the finishing straight - let alone in sight of the last 50 metres!
Real sporting effort is fantastic - which is why I fail to appreciate darts, snooker or motorised 'sport', even though it is pleasant viewing for some.

Any Benfleet Running Club participants? The club has grown exponentially in the last few years and they have some great female runners. And the men are all superhuman triathletes with £3k bikes (I hate them )

Well I'm hardly known for my feminist sentiment, although one must admit that the thread has an air of pruriency, regardless of whether it labours under the pretext of being 'tounge in cheek'.

Ultimately, the OP saw a bunch of ladies taking part in a sporting event, decided he liked the look of that, thus whipped out his camera for some jollies.

Despite this, thankfully, not yet being illegal, it is rather reminiscent of the old man and the trench coat. Whilst, I don't think the 'daughter' argument quite flies*, it does seem to be in bad form. Certain thoughts are best kept to oneself, when shared (unless fleeting) the intent comes to mind. Being a bloke is hardly characterised by publishing voyeuristic pictures of unsuspecting women going about non-promiscously, that's just a glorification of self-debasement.

*In all honesty few of us even like that some bloke will have such wanton thoughts about their little princesses - we just repress it as a nod towards maturity.

Given the amount of repressive rhetoric flying around, it's surprising there is any population growth in this country.

Welcome to being a heterosexual male in 'great' britain.

Hello, I'm CP, I have a penis, and I am a bad person.

Sounds like some people are just fawning appologists, bleating their vicarious disapproval for any positive attention and clique inclusion.

Just be yourself, it's more fun.

Couldn't get that to work Kirstie - I'll try again, but it did remind me that there were two gratuitous shots that sneaked in...a bit 'X-rated' but hey!

I even bought a bottle of baby oil for later that evening. Suffice to say it was the bicycle that benefitted, but the pleasure of cleaning it. Wow! ;)
