Has he got a bike yet?

I've offered to go with him to the river or the park by bike but he'd rather stay in.

He had a heart attack 5 years ago so I should cut him some slack but I just think he's wasting himself now. Perhaps he just needs a friend to motivate him but it's hard to find any opportunities for him to meet anyone.

I'm afraid that a large percentage of people get depressed when they retire. My neighbour is an example; he and his wife sit indoors all day long watching endless sport on TV; they never go out, they moan about everything and when they go to the doctor they don't make an effort to understand their illnesses so when you ask them what the Dr said they just reply: "I don't know". It's tragic.

My mum was a Commandant in Thanet Red Cross until she died. She used to say 'I'm taking the old dears for a push along the prom in their wheelchairs this weekend'
We pointed out to her that most of them were younger than she was.
She and my dad also played badminton well into their 70's.
Maybe an 'exercise ethic' was passed down in the genes as my sister and I are both into cycling, walking etc.

I presently cycle an average of 70 to 80 miles a week, though that will drop due to my eye operation last Monday and I'm off the bike for 6 weeks. (But I can still do a decent walk or two.)

Though age is an actual quantifiable amount, I'm 63, old age is whenever you feel it is, I reckon.

Yeah my dad was the same. He was used to being the breadwinner, and when the construction industry spat him out he found it very hard to redefine himself and get out.
