Need to fit a 10 speed Cassette to Shimano R501 hub (rims are R500) and wondering whether I need to fit the shimano spacer?

Is it dependent on make of cassette?

I think the 501 hubs are 11 speed and you will need to fit the spacer that comes with the wheel.the cassette needs to be shimano compatible to fit .

Hmm; I thought that too but had trouble with lockring. I can get it (apparently) secure but when I tighten it a bit more it springs loose.

When I left it fairly secure everything seems out of sync in that its trying to jump into spokes and can't get top gear. That's with spacer fitted. Is it normal to adjust limit screws with different wheels?

I have a set of Shimano 501's as my winter wheels and I have a 105 10 speed cassette and if you are talking about the spacer/washer that comes with the cassette that you fit behind it yes I needed it.
Right so need the spacer it seems. I'll have another bash. I'm just not confident that cassette is secure.
