Flat pedals clip

Thanks guys for your input, at this point the most pressing issue is the spanner to take off ye-olde pedals? Is there a special tool that does this, or another trip to my LBS?

Edit: should really be... And another trip to the LBS! or what ever we call the guys who sell us half the answer.

It'll be a 15mm open head spanner. Pedal spanners are a tad thinner than a regular 15mm one so they definitely fit in the gap if the pedal cage is quite close to the crank but they're not essential and 99% of the time a regular spanner is fine.

You may also have an Allen key slot on the pedal spindle inside the crank.

Not over rated when you are out of the saddle honking up a steep short hill. No way would your feet stay on the pedals.

I stand on steep climbs and have no problem keeping my feet on the (flat) pedals.

I think Jesus is proven (are you muddling him up with god?)... but you're missing the point... some people prefer clips or clipless and feel that they do get increased efficiency from being attached to their pedals. Whether it's a half percent increase, 5 percent or 20 percent is irrelevant.

No, I think Jesus is unproven too - but let's not get distracted by discussing a worthless religion. People may well feel they are benefitting, and that's great - I'm just pointing out that the feeling of benefit is over-rated - because there isn't any.

Even if you disregard pulling up, clipless pedals keep your feet placed correctly on the pedals at all times. I ride flats on my MTB and am constantly finding my feet out of position.

Thanks Jim, those are what I was wondering about. Aesthist, Agnostic, or what ever, I'm typically inclined to swear at this point, its a question about cycle pedals not god ffs!

Got those for the wife to help with foot positioning, she loves them and feels safe rather than trapped

Yeah one of the guys in work swears by them ( on his mtb ) ,stops his feet slipping off pedals but not locked in and he feels these are better for commuting as well as u can wear everyday shoes

Another note on removing the old / current pedals I find most bike spanners (the ones you get free with some bikes) have the correct size for pedals, everyone I've had has anyway
