im moving into a new flat and want my av stuff on shelves under the tv (which im looking to wall mount ) now the wall in question is plasterboard (obv with wood studs behind it and in turn blocks behind that through the insulation),to get a good fixing could i screw a large board (say 6*4)onto the wall, screwed to the studs (thereby spreading the load )and fix the shelf brackets to this (and the tv in question )
i have a stud finder to find the wooden studs so i could fix the board properly to that using big wood screws and prob silicone round the edges for a neat finish ,but for the shelves would u reccomend toggle fixings that therfore go right through the wood (im thinking 18mm mdf painted,or if i can get it iv seen wall panelling whick is kinda like a sheet of marble ,but its just wood with a coating and u can get it in loads of colours -sparkly white and stuff -iv only seen this kinda stuff used on shower enclosures and stuff so im not sure how thick (and therefore suitable)this is )and through to the backside of the plasterboard, any thoughts on this ,is it a goer?
this obv isnt mine but something like this
