The first punch might be heat of the moment but the second one isn't a full blown act of adrenalin, he looks like he's deliberately pulled it.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

There are other ways to prove yourself as a man that doesn't include violence.

The game wouldn't have been mentioned on the main news, not even the result. They only showed it cos of the punch. They love it when something like this happens in the worlds greatest sport.

I also thought he 'pulled' the second punch.

Doesn't make it a great deal better, but it does help to explain why the other guy was not more seriously injured.

Quite so.

If you live in Woking you are not interested in a minority sport played by thick northern savages.

Unless those thick northern savages live up to type, as happened in this case.

Not a good way to teach kids about sport being all over the telly.........

Not GBH but nevertheless an assault and as such should be pursued by plod.

Here's case in my local paper of an assault caused by touching someone's arm which theoretically it is..........

Quote: Smith, of Castlerigg Drive, Morton, admitted the common assault by touching the girl’s arm; sexual assault – which was the uninvited kiss – and an earlier public order offence.

The first punch is explainable IMO (it's RL), he took a cheap shot and gave one in return, the second is way over the line and he needs to be banned for a long time.
I like d the way they were explaining it on Radio 5.
The general concensus was that a few punches shared between consenting professional players was acceptable, But it crossed the line when you cant defend yourself.

This was the most sickening fight I can remember. In a Rugby Union, a Lions mid week game, where the opposition just go out to soften them up a bit. His own team mates end up pulling him off the guy on the ground. He punches him 11 times and gets a 7 week ban!

On Lions tours it is fairly common for SH oppo, mid-week or test, to target key players with a view to taking them out of the tour.
