I like to pre- purchase anything cycling, so that I'm not left searching without being able to ride. I had a pair of MTB cycling shoes sourced from Lidl (probably 12+ years ago). Last year the soles parted company with the uppers, and some evostick kept them going until recently - aside from a little res-stitching a few years ago they lasted well. So, out of the cupboard came my FLR 55 MTB shoes bought in anticipation (probably 3+ years ago). After 3 rides (less than 200 miles) the soles have come off the uppers, nearly as far back as the cleats - so I'm none too pleased. 3 weeks use is pretty poor. I suspect the heat wave weather is a contributory factor. Can anyone recommend a good glue that will last?
As an alternative, are there any recommendations for MTB -style (2 bolt SPD) style shoes that are durable and sub £50?
TIA

Iirc my PlanetX Das Boots are an rebadged FLR model. Great autumn to spring.

I bought a pair of DHB Dorica MTB shoes before Ashley took over Chain Reaction and started using them outdoors in spring '25 on my gravel bike. All good so far.

Ebay link, but not where mine came from...

Dhb have been the most comfortable shoes for me as I have wide feet I struggled with most brands having to go one or two sizes up but they fit true to normal shoe size. I literally bought 4 pairs when they were £10 on sale. Just worn my 1 st pair out .

These are the FLR shoes after 3 rides (less than 200 miles total). Not very reassuring that the black 'glue' between the sole and uppers extends as a covering on the toecap.. I've removed the glue remnants from the sole and upper, and roughened the sole using a hacksaw blade. I've used Stixall hybrid adhesive/sealant from Toolstation between the two parts and clamped them in place, so we'll see what the result it. If that doesn't fix them I don't know what will. I used the same product to 'glue' the door mirrors on my kit car 15 years ago and they are still in place (metal to GRP)

The glue on shoes that have the sole fastened with glue can deteriorate over time with out them even being worn. I once took a pair of not very old shoes where the sole had started to come off to a cobbler. His first words were you have hade these for a while, when I said I’d only had them a few months. He said they were probably old stock.
He said they weren’t worth repairing.

No real hope if they are being used then? Time-limiting glue....or is it ok when the item is being used

Even my shoes from Lidl lasted 12 years. If the shoes aren't used I'd not expect the glue to deteriorate (especially in a cool, dark cupboard.) maybe we have different expectations.

I glued them using 'Stixall' hybrid adhesive/sealer from Toolstation, clamped for 2 days to ensure no movement during curing. I did 73 miles using the shoes yesterday, and they haven't fallen apart (yet) ^_^
