A cold? and my next commute.

Any tips for this?

I have had this since last Friday and have been in bed since then.(Restdays)

I am booked to work Tuesday and Wednesday and still feel a bit groggy so I have to commute in by bike.The tube isn't an option as I don't want to share this crap with the good populace of London.(Although unfortunately I will be sharing it with my workmates).Im going to leave at least 15 minutes early in case I decide to do a Technicolour yawn down the Mile End Road.(It won't be the first time)

My work offer flu-jabs every year but have never taken this up due to a friend having an allergic reaction to one of these and dying.

So really I haven't got and excuse.Also going sick just before Christmas won't look good at all.

TIA.

I've had it and don't normally do sick. one lemon squeeze one tsp honey heated in microwave until honey dissolved, 3 times a day plus anadin at night pretty much cured me.

I wouldn't bike it into work if I were you, to be on the safe side. Worst case, you might get weak, throw up, dehydrate and all them nasty things.
Get the tube.

Ibuprofen and paracetomol in combination, taken regularly throughout the day will relieve the symptoms. Takes about 20 minutes to kick in. Ride slowly in two gears easier than normal and wrap up warm with a scarf over your mouth. Honey and hot water for a sore throat/cough and occasional decongestant stick for your nose.

Good luck.

Edit: better to stay in bed though.

Thanks and yes will take my time.I won't have to cycle so far back on the return.

I haven't got the choice I have to go in.Luckily it's been 4 days since it kicked in but looking back I was very run down at work and so tired before this started.Seems like the long working spells and probably poor diet hasn't helped.

If it's flu, defo don't ride. You probably shouldn't be working either.

Years of people taking the pee with sickness has lead to this being scared to go sick lark and believe me I don't want to do it but I have to.

Don't know if it's flu or a cold as im no doctor.

  • fever (usually above 38°C/100°F) Tick
  • chills Tick
  • muscle aches and pain-----> Ache a bit
  • severe headache----> Minor Headache
  • weakness and tiredness-----> Yes
  • loss of appetite------> Definitely I've lost at least half a stone
  • sore throat------> Not really
  • cough-----> Tick
  • chest pain-----> Caused by excessive coughing.

Not on list Blocked nose/runny nose/upset stomach.
Dehydrated most of the time.

Tomorrow is going to be fun.

F*** !!.... :0. Ehhhm, no one else pick up on this?

Don't ride with flu, you'll be very sorry.

Just ask your work if they want to have flu on Christmas day? If they don't, stay home. If they think you're at it and ask you to come in then screw them, they deserve it!

Probably better if I end up in hospital although im being over dramatic here.(I think I will be ok)

I don't think they could give a ponies if I had flu on Christmas day.

There was a colleague dismissed recently,apparently he had too much time off though I never noticed it.He's got an appeal coming up.

No I don't mean a work colleague I mean an actual friend.

If it is flu, as opposed to a cold, then I really wouldn’t exercise (and, as someone who came down with it on Thursday, I’m surprised your even contemplating going out – I need about 20mins to recover after going for a piss)

Seriously – if your muscles are aching at rest, then they have been damaged by the flu virus, and are fixing themselves (just like after good exercise) – so exercising them on top of this will cause further damage, making you less fit…

If you’ve a fever, then your heart (that’s already working a bit harder getting rid of all the crap your muscles are producing as a bi product of repair) is also under pressure to get more blood than usual to the skin to keep you from frying. Combine this with the fact that some flu virus’ can cause a temporary inflammation of the heart and associated arteries (as they get bigger they become more unstable and can suddenly become occluded – leading to a heart attack)…

Not saying you’ll do your self in, but you’re certainly not going to do your body any favours jumping on the bike…

If Public transports out, what about a cab/lift from a colleague –

is the job that important that you have to work when you have the flu?? I wouldn’t want to pay you for a days work in that condition :angry:

Hackers, I've just had what sounds to be exactly the same thing at about the same time - came on Thursday, in bed Friday, Saturday, a good chunk of Sunday with a temperature of 38.5 Friday / Saturday, recovering today but still feel lousy. I tried to do a few bits today and it wiped me out.

I'd second what everyone else says, brufen / paracetamol for the symptoms, take at least Tues off if you can, and definitely don't ride into work, tube it or get a cab. Chances are by now you aren't infectious, half the people you'll see on the tube have already been exposed anyway, and if you feel like I do you'll do yourself no good by riding what I seem to remember is a longish commute (by my standards!).

If you have the flu then don't even think about riding the bike, not even a gentle ride. As others have said you are not doing yourself or your work mates any favours by going to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you've got proper 'flu, you won't be able to ride a bike. Nor should you be going into work. Real influenza is not to be trifled with. Real 'flu will have you weak for a good month.

I got MrWC & I jabbed this year (we had to pay for it) as in work we meet a lot of very elderly people and those with compromised immune systems, so we really didn't want to be passing anything that could kill them along...

Hi Hack

I had flu, hit like a hammer last Monday and spent Tues/Wed and some of Thurs in bed. Flu is nothing like a cold and I would seriously advice you not to cycle. If it's anything like I had, temperature, sweats, chills and absolutely no appetite, you need to rest and build back up strength. I could hardly walk on Friday, let alone ride a bike.

Keep well.
