My grandpa had the flu jab once, he was ill for six months - hope that helps!

Er.... that's how vaccinations work. You get the virus but it can't reproduce inside your body.

I have had a flu jab each winter for the last three years and, touch wood, not had any bad reactions. Even if I did,I think I would rather feel a bit rough for a few days than go through a bout of flu.
(By that I mean real flu, not man flu  )

I'm not actually sure of how a flu jab works...does it introduce the virus in some safe form into your body so it can build up an immunity..or what ?
I had the jab some years ago, and felt like death for 24 hours.
I know plenty of other people had the jab with no day after effects !!!

Is it because perhaps some people who havnt either had the flu or the jab for years and years react badly.

I was told it is a deactivated form of the virus that stimulates your body to produce antibodies, so that if you are exposed to the actual flu virus, your body is better equipped to fight it off.

I always remember a company I used to work for offered all staff a flu jab. I declined, as did quite a few others but the ones that did get it all were off sick the next day. They didn't offer it to us again...

you CAN NOT get flu from the flu jab. Period. Any illness following it is purely co-incidental.

True, but the whole point of it is to provoke an immune response, so some mild flu-like symptoms are not unheard of. I just had a sore arm for a few hours.

Oh, and this is a great example of the post hoc fallacy. That just because event B (the OP feeling crap) follows event A (getting the flu vaccine) it does not mean that A caused B.

With millions of people getting the flu vaccine, you would expect some of them to coincidentally feel ill within a day or two afterwards.

A live attenuated flu vaccine would presumably carry a risk for immunocompromised individuals.
