Can't believe it, I got a fly in my eye during a relatively short spin this afternoon.

For most of the year I wear eye protection as I cycle with contact lenses, but don't normally bother at this time of year as there's usually no flying insects in January. Today it was so mild that there were loads of the buggers out.

Does anyone know whether the flies keep alive all winter, or do they just hatch out on a mild day and then die off as soon as it gets cold?

Today I took a picture of Andy Gates being pursued by a bee.

He was wearing a yellow and black Gore jacket. We think the bee fancied him
