I caught someone flytipping during lockdown. I was out for a ride and in one country lane passed him as he was dumping his crap off a bridge into a gully below. I dont thing he even heard me.

I recognised him and the car as living in the next street to me, and gleefully reported him. I was even more filled with glee when the council officer that got back to me turned out to be a retired bobby id worked with about 20 years prior.

I also saw another one last year. Was walking th3 dog and about 100 metres more so ahead a car pulled up a lay by, the driver hooped out, pulled a large flat screen tv from his boot, propped it against a litter bin and sped off. I dont see how he could not have spotted me but he still did it. I got the reg and grassed him too, but dont know if he ever got stiffed over it,

The penalties should be draconian and well publicised, and LAs should stop making it difficult to access the local tip.

Just imagine if that had happened in this country though and he'd hurt his back. We really have lost the plot.

On the subject of tips, sorry 'household recycling centres' ~ we used to have one between Cockfield & Evenwood, Cragwood. It appeared to have been in a sort of small, old quarry. Handy for us and numerous other villages locally.

It shut in the early 2010's I think and no trace of it remains. (RIP our local tip)

We now have to go to either Tindale (which is horrifically busy and in an even busier area, near the massively congested retail park) or Stainton near Barnard Castle (which to be fair to the council has been revamped recently and is much improved). Neither as convenient for anybody in our area, but hey ho.
What did really p#ss me off when Cragwood closed was around the same time the opening hours at all the local tips changed, look at the opening hours on Cragwood ~ 8:00 am to 8:00 pm during summer, so anybody working for a living could go on their way to work, or in the evening after work, you know ~ when working people are jobbing about the house / garden. Now they all open at 9:00 am, so I can't even go on the way to work anymore, as I used to. Closing at 6:00 pm is a ball-ache as well, as if I have anything er, 'aromatic' to dump it'll have to sit in the car all day. I could go at lunchtime but they are always busy and that would require an additional, short, uneconomic car journey. Hardly in keeping with the councils green environmental agenda.
A cynical fellow would be inclined to think this was done deliberately to make using the service more difficult (especially for non-recyclables), thus discouraging people from getting rid of stuff and achieving more environmental brownie points for the council. But as we can see above, fly tipping, either individually or via waste 'businesses' has massively increased. Utter f#@kwittery.

What happens is an area becomes known for fly tipping and lots will be trade waste but then domestic crap gets put there as well.
A vicious cycle. If there's 10tons of trade waste a few bags of domestic almost goes unnoticed.

It's all an utter blight on the land.

If you are caught using a vehicle to dump stuff, could or should the vehicle be siezed? Being used in commission of a crime.

It could indeed be, although I've never known of it happening for fly tipping.

Sadly due to caring duties,my litter picking days are curtailed at the moment.But i have reported one woman twice.She moved in to a flat just off Stonegate Road.She dumped carpet underlay mattress and three cardboard boxes with her name and address on.weeks later it was a hideous purple bed head and base.Neither times was i contacted by the council,but the items were removed at a cost to the tax payer no doubt.

I have read about situations where a normal person dumped a bag of waste on a big pile

and the council went through it and found their address in the small bag they left

then charged them with dumped the whole x tons of stuff

The professionals were aware enough to make sure it was not identifiable
but the poor sod who just dumped a single bag got well and truly screwed!!
