The other issue is that the lanes of Kent, which are massively fly tipped, are probably receiving rubbish that originated in London or the Medway Towns.

Yep. These are the first really rural roads on the way out of London.
It is inside M25. So London by any other name.

We've had a few around us on quiet lanes. 1 was artic loads of rotting waste just dumped in the middle of the lane, supposably several hundred tons of it. Another was a local gypo who just emptied his pickup of garden waste in the middle of a lane not realising that covert cctv surveillance was being carried out. A new one around us about 8 months ago was old lorry trailers filled with rubbish just jumped in laybys. The A50 had quite a few dumped.

I have read about situations where a normal person dumped a bag of waste on a big pile

and the council went through it and found their address in the small bag they left

then charged them with dumped the whole x tons of stuff

The professionals were aware enough to make sure it was not identifiable
but the poor sod who just dumped a single bag got well and truly screwed!!
Which reminds me of a brilliant (and rather long) song from my younger days

Actually a protest song against Vietnam/conscription but the first part relevant to this thread. Maybe best/most relevant line "And we decided that one big pile is better 'n two little piles, and rather than bring that one up, we decided to throw ours down."

Even though (for some reason) I can't see that video, I know EXACTLY what the song is. A classic - god bless those damn hippies!

Outsource the detection and prosecution to a private company. Make offenders responsible for the cost of detection, plus the fine associated with it. DNA testing of materials recovered to identify owners.

Well it’s getting worse here every day. I go for a cycle ride, I go for my daily walk everywhere there’s rubbish dumped. I report the big stuff, eight mattresses yes eight! old garden furniture, general rubbish in black bags discarded it just goes on and on. The Derby city council gets my rubbish report generally once a week it’s getting just too much spoiling our lovely environment. The latest one today a used clothing locker with garments everywhere just left for someone else to clear up.

We currently have some members of the Traveller community staying nearby. They’ve been dumping a load of tree cuttings on a local Cyclepath, completely blocking it. This is right next to where they are camped up, they aren’t even subtle about it. They just don’t care. ive reported it to the local council, but over a week later it’s still there, in fact there’s even more of it. The travellers are still there too.

Both East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire council tips are open six days a week with no appointments needed. You might end up queuing on a weekend or a bank holiday.

In the Vale of Glamorgan, ytou do need an appointment, but they are open 7 days a week, and you can often get same day appointments, though I usually book a day or two in advance.

We do as well, now.

This four acre illegal travellers site was built at Willows Green four miles from here over the bank holiday weekend whilst the council offices were closed. They planned it like a military operation, and started work under cover of darkness last Friday night.

Ah, Yes. We have one of those too. Sited next to an old railway embankment that was turned into a cyclepath. But they’ve undermined the embankment whilst illegally extending the site and the cycle path has had to be closed because the embankment is now unstable. This was a couple of years ago and whilst there’s been lots of complaining, including by the local MP, nothing has been done to evict them or rectify the situation, so the cycle path remains closed.
