and the local CTC (not Brum) didn't have anything interesting for the younger generations.

that's interesting. If you'd care to elaborate in your e-mail that would be very helpful. I'll take you BC number, if I may

we'll see how old on the Beacon, young sir....

Careful Radius, this could be a lose/lose situation for you, old codgers know some tricks and some would even stoop to a permanent bandage.

By the way, Davywlanut just behind me on the list, I can't believe the guys drafting me before we even start, that's just taking the p*ss.

Radius is like a hare, but you'll be pleased to know that, if you're slow enough, you'll be able to keep me company:biggrin:

I was actually referring to Simon. But I'll probably be wheezing alongside anyway

we're at about 75, with only ten or so riders who've been tail end Charlies or wayfinders. That's a tad short of the ratio I'd like, but there are probably some others that would fit the bill. If you're a strongish rider, particularly if you've got a talent with punctures, could you send me an e-mail please? Only if you fancy it - there's no pressure, because I have non-CC riders who I know can be pressganged. I'm trying to spread the load a bit, because it's not fair to prevail on the same people time and time again. We average a bit under two punctures a ride.

Wayfinding is a kind of penance for being at the front. I look around and say - 'could you mark this junction please?' And you get to stay there until the TECs come by and say 'that's it, we're the last'. You can then toddle along with the TECs to the next collection point (of which there are about twelve) or whizz back to the front and do it again. In fairness the entire Brighton route only has about a dozen junctions that need a human signpost, but if you feel like making the offer, please do.

The TECs travel in threes at the back, and keep company with the slower riders. When there's a mechanical or a puncture they call ahead to stop the front of the ride (if need be), and help fix the problem - and then relay the rider to the back of the bunch. There would probably be three shifts of TECs on the ride. I generally bring up the rear from the top of the Beacon onward.

ah-ha - but appealing to the more noble instincts of CCers, and then having them discover the fun bit, deepens the sense of satisfaction, thus leading to what might call the FNRttC effect - the peculiar pleasure gained from doing something adventurous and worthy that turns out, as they discover, to be an absolute hoot. Thusly are they hooked.....it's like crack, but it does you good - you even get to tell your friends about it!

Always happy to be of help, although I'm not sure how much help I would be.

I doubt I'll be near the front very often, unless Radius needs taking down a peg or 2

And I'm a little rusty when it comes to punctures, Marathon Pluses mean over a year without one, but they do seem to repell the fairy quite well. There hasn't been a puncture on any of the rides I've been on (even Walnuts pre-punctured tubes lasted).

But if you see me and need assistance, just wake me up and ask

My bike so you can recognise me

I have no mechanical knowledge (without the aid of a book at least), but the human signposting could be fun...I'm probably not strong enough, though, doubt I'll end up at the front.

hahaha! Well, your a good person to draft, although an sure an accountant can spell! hehehehe!

Dellzeqq - Ill offer to be a wayfinder/signpost next time if thats okay, with this being my second FRNttC and first to Brighton, you know I just love sprinting and showing off my perfectly formed buttocks and legs! lol!

No one will ever know what was used as the 'former' ;)
Davy - we can leave about 22:30 sharp (ish) - tell Stavros to serve up about 21:30 so you have time to digest. And don't leave the lights business until the last moment. I know you like fast downhills - some of these are a bit 'technical' to say the least, and I imagine your perfectly formed buttocks + legs a millisecond later, will punch a neat hole in the hedge as you meet an unexpected turn.(Save searching for a place to stop for a 'walnutbreak' though )

See you soon chav!
