The race in Spain is on currently in the background, and I said something about how completely over the top the commentators are, and was promptly told to shut up as it is what they are payed to do, which was charming and beautifuly absurd at the same time.

I'd just LOVE to hear the audition for it:


'The cars are coming round the corner AND ALONSO HAS SPED UP, HE'S SPED UP! OH! OH! AND HAMILTON'S CAR HAS JUST FALLEN OFF THE JACK IN THE PITS! AND THE SAFETY CAR IS OUT! THIS IS SO EXCITING I THINK I'M ABOUT TO CREAM MYSELF!! Now, let's hear what the Ferrari team radio has to say....'

Sorry, but the reactions are just laughable at best.

Murray Walker really does have a lot to answer for.

Formula 1 really is dire. A couple of dozen ludicrously overpaid tax exiles, following each others' backsides round a flat ribbon of tarmac, all to see who can change their tyres fastest.

I know, that is another one I've noticed, but for some reason, I have never really noticed it much on F1 (mainly because I never watch it these days). The reactions ARE COMPLETELY OVER... THE... TOP!!


Luckily it isn't all the time, that would be Intollerable.

Yes but the commentators don't have regular fits (practically) about anything remotely exciting happening.

It was just the reactions that got me, they were completely out of proportion to what had happened.

I guess you were watching it on BBC rather than SKY? Brundle and Croft on Sky are considerably less shoutey at random non exciting stuff. Legard on Radio5 is even worse and constantly shouty.

Absolutely, I cant really get into cycling on TV at all and think its one of the most boring televised sports there is, but Im quite a big F1 fan althoughI understand people having got bored with certain seasons that were boring. It does also suffer a bit from tracks and drivers being selected more by money than being good. This season in particular has lots of overtaking, is totally unpredictable and almost every race comes right down to the last few laps.

Not that anyone here will be interested, but if you havent followed the first 7 races Hamilton has argueably been fastest and 3-4 times his pit crew have had problems that because the races are so close has cost him the win and will probably cost him this years championship, for the F1 fans it was a huge OMG moment when the jack failed.
