An easier ride this time. Easier than the recent Dales one, that is!

I haven't yet decided on the route, but it will be 50-60 miles with a good selection of slightly-less-monstrous-than-those-Dales hills and a cafe stop somewhere nice.

Nobody will be left behind, but you should be confident that you can tackle a hilly ride of this distance. It will be slow, slow, slow. Don't come along and complain about it being slow. IT WILL BE SLOW! (We won't be riding quickly ... ;))

We'll be aiming to set off at 10:00 so let's meet at Market Place car park, Hebden Bridge, at 09:45 on Sunday, 3rd July. (Map showing car park).

The centre of Hebden Bridge is now pedestrianised and there is a one-way system. To get to the car park turn right up Commercial Street as you come into HB from the Halifax direction, second left after about 100 yards by the White Lion. Follow that road round over the river. The car park is then on your right.

If you are coming from the Todmorden direction, turn left down Old Gate (one way street) at the end of Market Street, just after the closed-down pub on your left. Follow the road round past the Hole in t'Wall. The car park is straight ahead on the right (not the first little one, the bigger one further on).

If anybody decides to turn up announced (it has happened before) make sure that you get to Market Place car park by 09:45 because we won't be hanging about once all those officially riding have gathered!

I reckon we will get back at between 17:00 and 1800. (Told you it would be slow!)

I'll edit this post later to fill in the details, but I have things to do this afternoon so it might be this evening or tomorrow before I do that.

I thought I'd give you a few days notice so you can pencil the ride in if you are not already booked up. Is anyone interested in joining me?

Put me down as a maybe please Col.

Maybe we can show Shaun the Padiham cycle route now it's finished and we don't need CX bikes, don't think he's seen it has he?

Wherever you dicide I'm sure it will be a great route, let's hope Steve has booked another decent day for us :sun:

Alun- The car park fee has gone up a little I think, from 30p ph to 40.

why not do the usual waddington run? i like that run and i've not done it for a while. could easily miss the main roads.
Well, it's not a bad run but I think we have done it another couple of times without you and I fancy a change!

I'm up for this one Colin! Will it be slow? :bicycle:
The usual, i.e. - yes!

I hope you don't mind us leaving that until next month? I will update the first post with my suggested route this evening. Bikely is down so I'll choose another mapping site to join and will put the route up on that.

It's really nice here today and my legs feel up for a ride, but my bum doesn't! My new saddle was an improvement on the old one but I still have a swollen lump the size of a hen's egg on my a*se from Sunday! I've tried different shorts, different bikes and different saddles but I always get the same problem in the same position on hard rides. It is to do with being fat and unfit because I don't suffer from it when I am slim and fit.

Yes, the rates have gone up in all the car parks by 10p/hr. If you begrudge the council the parking fees, then you could probably find a free spot on the left of the A646 on the Halifax side of Hebden Bridge, just past Station road. You wouldn't later in the day, but at about 09:30 on a Sunday you should be okay.

Not for me this one.

It's not that I wouldn't like to come along it's just that FOUR weekends away on the trot would see me on short rations until Christmas.

Added to that it's the wedding anniversary tomorrow so I think I had better play safe.

Have a good one.

Alun- It might be slower than usual, I've not done a decent ride for 2 months

Colin- I get a similar saddle sore spot on long rides, same general place every time.
Best success has been by applying a decent amount of Sudocreme before and after the ride, seems to lessen the pain anyway

Can you rate the ride on hilliness please, ie- compared to the hilly Waddington rides.

I have to give me apologies on this one. I am pre-booked at a paella party with some Spanish friends. Shame the paella party wasn't on the Saturday as I'm sure it would have been great carb loading!

I'd be up for a Waddington ride shortly after though or even a repeat of the flattish century ride to Blackpool??

As long as we are back by about 18:30 I'm happy. My sister and husband are up for the weekend - they don't mind me cycling all day Sunday, but we are having a meal together on Sunday evening so I can't be too late back.

The sore seems to be due to pressure rather than friction. There is a small amount of tenderness to the skin, but the main problem is that the big lump that comes up under the skin. (No school boy jokes please - I'm talking about an inner cheek here!) I'm sure that it is partly related to my leg length discrepancy. I'm either twisted slightly on the saddle or sitting slightly off centre. Anyway, the answer to the problem seems to be to lose weight and get fit because the problem always goes away when I do that.

I just checked my intended route and it came out at as about the same length as the last Waddington ride but 10% hillier. I can see that you are concerned about it so I've shortened it to 81 km (50 miles) and it is now about the same hilliness as the last Waddington ride.

Enjoy the party and we'll sort a ride out the following weekend perhaps?

Have fun! See you on the next one perhaps?
