@potsy, come out with us. i'll stick with you, if it gets a bit much for you. go on you know you wanna!!
Potsy - honestly, I'm really unfit at the moment - if anybody is going to suffer it will be me! (And I don't intend to bust a gut, so there won't be any speed records broken!) You'd be doing less than half of what you did on the Blackpool ride.

If you don't want to do the full 57 miles from Hebden Bridge and back, you and Shaun could arrange to meet us on the way out and leave us in Burnley on the way back.

If we opt for the hillier scenic route out, you could lop a big chunk off it by riding down to Brierfield with Shaun from his house. It's a pretty easy 7 mile run down main roads to get there and you could meet us on the B6248 bridge over the M65. That option would total 42 miles for you by the time you got back to Shaun's.

If the weather isn't so good and we stick to the A646 going out, you could meet us just after the Manchester Road traffic lights about 3 miles from Shaun's as we head for Padiham. That option would total 37 miles by the time you got back to Shaun's.

Either way, we will be riding back on the A646 so we can say goodbye to you 3 miles from Shaun's at the Manchester Road lights.

The CC posse commands your presence! ;)

I would come and meet you guys, probably in Padiham but I'm doing Burnley to Leeds on the canal the day after! DOH

Well, it's a pretty easy 25 mile ride from Padiham to Waddington and back so you shouldn't burn off too much energy... (though we will probably take the hillier back roads from Padiham to Spring Wood, Whalley to avoid The Devil's Elbow.

You'd be welcome to join us, but I've just remembered - if we do the hilly route on the way out, we'd bypass Padiham and ride through Sabden instead. In that case, you could ride over to Brierfield and meet us on the B6248 on the bridge over the M65, as discussed above.

The final decision on the route will be made on Saturday once we know what the weather is doing (and how my legs are after a couple of mid-week test rides).

I'll see what Shaun is planning later in the week and see if I can come up with a plan then, really don't think you'll be as un-fit as me though Colin, 1st commute the other week was tough and that was only 9 miles

i think it may be prudent to take the low route. i'll have done 160 miles on a bike i have only spent 2hrs (at one time) in the seat(plus i'm doing 100 miles), potsy says he's not done a lot of riding, you've not done a lot of riding and there may be a risk if ice on higher ground. i commute over the tops of rochdale / stacksteads, and there are a few stubborn large patches of thick ice, i can only imagine it'll be worse higher up over hebden / widdup.

@potsy, i'm planning on riding from my house to hebden, then following colins route then back from hebden and need to do a further 20 miles somewhere. if i were you, i'd be thinking of riding from hebden, the roads that colin is planning are not very hilly and if it gets a bit much, i'll back to hebden with you.

cheers

I think that will be my best option if I do decide to come along. I'm only 50/50 at the minute, can you define 'not very hilly' please

Is it similar to the outward Blackpool route or flatter/ hillier?

Cannot see the Bikely routes for some reason.

I'm based outside of Bolton so maybe try intercept you at some point if it still goes ahead.
