I really hate to do this, Colin, but I think my name should be moved to the 'Highly Unlikely' list.

As you may recall from a previous post, I've been out only four times since April - and I've not ridden at all this month - but knowing how supportive the Hebden Bridge posse is, I was happy to give it a go. Now, however, I've gone down with a proper cold - high temperature, shivering, sneezing, etc. It may have run its course by Sunday, in which case I'll join you, but if I'm not at the car park, don't wait.
Oh, bad luck!

If you feel ill today, I'd be surprised if you really feel well by Sunday but if you do, you know where to find us, and at least you know how relaxed our rides are, apart from the steep hills of course ...

The forecast for Sunday is improving! The earlier forecast for heavy rain has been watered down (*groan*) to patchy light showers with sunny spells. Still that NW headwind on the ride out though ...

Rider List:
  • ColinJ
  • potsy
  • Alun
Possibles:
  • 400bhp
  • tubbycyclist
  • Globalti (weather-dependent)
  • oldfatfool (flooring-dependent!)
  • SlowerThanASluggishSloth (cold-dependent)
  • my mate Bill (hasn't made his mind up yet)
Calum - did you check your work roster and if so, are you joining us?

Oh well ... See if you can persuade colly to come over for Season of Mists on Sunday October 2nd. If you can't get a lift, the first train gets in at 09:17. The official start time is 09:00 but I'm sure that 'the slow train' would be prepared to wait until 09:30 for you if you want to join us.

The forecast for tomorrow has improved. The wind speeds are dropping and the risk of rain is decreasing.

See you tomorrow, Alun and potsy, and any of the 'possibles' who make it.

If any of you make a last minute decision to come along but miss us at the start, chase us up Heptonstall Road, take the lower road through Lee Wood, bear right through Slack, then turn right down Widdop Road. Unless you are as slow as me, you should be able to catch us somewhere along there.

So it looks like potentially 10 of us, but more likely about 4 or 5?

Don't forget - meet at 09:45, ride at 10:00!

Trying to get the enthusiasm up to get the bike ready for the morning, struggling to move off the settee though as I was working today at 6am :tired:

Glad the weathers looking like being decent anyway, after being battered by the wind earlier this week.

6 am - I think I remember that!

I've got the opposite problem - being awake until about 3 or 4 am then trying to get up at a sensible time!

I've got a new bottom bracket to fit but I can't find my crank puller. I know it is lying about somewhere but I'm blowed if I can spot it ... (Note to self - must tidy up the indoor 'bike shed'!)

That's right, you do the flat ones and us hardcore riders will do the hills  bloody students!! (sorry Calum)

Finally managed to move and the bike is looking great*, lightened the load a little and oiled the chain.

* As good as it will ever look anyway

See you all in the morning.

Hi again colin,
xx( sick as a parrot, sorry mate looks like I'm out for tomorrow. Just got a look at the cleats on my shoes and I dont think one of them is going to stand up to another ride . Especially with a climb in it like the one planned. Of course I've got no spare cleats but I'll know better next time. All part of the learning curve. Have yourselves a good day out anyway.

I've made the mistake of going out with over-worn Look cleats and then discovering that I couldn't get my foot out when I stalled on a very steep hill - it was painful! See you again another time.

Speaking of leaving things to the last minute ... I just discovered that I forgot to wash my kit after last weekend's 105 mile sportive - I'm glad that I noticed that before tomorrow's ride!
