Okay, my kit is ready but my bottom bracket certainly isn't! There is double the amount of play that there was before last weekend's long ride so it is definitely failing fast. I'm going to have one last search for the tools but I reckon I'll have to ride with the old one left in. Fingers crossed!

See you soon.

Sorry guys, I did try and forgo the flooring and set out, got as far as Halifax and after stopping at TL I couldn't put any pressure through the pedals, think I must have twisted my knee :sad: Hope you had a good ride.

To summarise; Well there I was getting ready for SOM ,happily skipping up the Nic O Pendle when I see wet tyre tracks in front of me. Looking up from my front wheel I spy 3 hardy souls doing the same :bicycle:

Upon catching the hind most I notice a long cage derailleur and as a way of banter say"Youve got it easy mate"

"Its not a triple!" comes the dark reply "My apologies Sir" I offer, having commited a slight faux pas.

"Youve got the same bike as the guy up front" he informs me.( Its a blue Basso Viper)

"Really?......Is his name Colin?"
"Yes" comes the reply, so I head off after the 2 chaps up ahead

"Put your hands up if you ride a Basso Viper" says I upon reaching the pair.

"I thought I had the only one in the country" says fellow Viper fan. No Colin , not even the only one in the Calder Valley

"Well have a chat at the top" I suggest and carry on ahead, and so was my chance encounter with(in order of appearence) Alun, Potsy and ColinJ

A nice chat in stunning surroundings about all things bikey, mention of the SOM ride on Oct 2nd,Potsy taking shots of the Vipers together (he didnt want me and Colin in view) and then farewells and cheers alround of "See you on the 2nd"

It was great meeting you guys on a superb cycling day in top cycling country.

Potsy, that cake looks wonderful, was it from the cafe in Waddington? If so Im having some on SOM no question!

3 posts in 5 months, don't you ever shut up?

Good to meet you today, and yes the cake is from the cafe at Waddington, the best cafe we go to imo, they provide locks for the bikes, always fill your bottles up for you, and have some lovely food and cake.

SOM should be a great day, but it's too tough for me so 'I'm Out'

My back gives me a lot of trouble on the climbs mate, and SOM has some hard climbs.

Think the Waddington rides are perfect amount of climbing and distance for me, gets most of the tough stuff out of the way in the first half then an *easy ride home.

*relatively speaking

Well I was able to get away from painting my hallway, changed and dashed over to Waddington reaching the cafe by about 1.30 I'd guess but you'd already gone. Oh well, I carried on over Waddinton Fell then back home via the cafe at Dunsop Bridge then Whitewell. Nice day for a ride too. Shame.

Sir, you greatly overestimate our fitness! I checked my GPS tracklog and we got to the cafe at 14:50. We didn't get back to Hebden Bridge until 18:30!

(More from me later after I've tackled a couple of things which need tackling!)

I think GlobalTi must have missed the bit about it being a 'slow' ride

Saying that, we would have been there 20 minutes earlier if we didn't have so many 'comfort breaks'

Blame my old bladder and that huge mug of tea before I set off ...

Also, we hadn't planned on the impromptu cyclocross round the world's largest pothole!

It wouldn't be a Colinj ride without a bit of CX'ing thrown in though would it? It's becoming your signature feature

Maybe on the next one you should add 'bring your wellies' to the ride description
