All the best. Hope all goes well for the whole family and especially Junior. If he can beat Cowlishaw, he can beat diabetes. :-)
Check whether the hospital is delivering the Paediatric* Diabetes Best Practice Tariff 'Year of Care' programme and make sure he's enrolled on it if they are. You should get referred to a Paediatric Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) anyway.
Make friends with your Diabetes CNS. If they're any good (and the overwhelming majority are) they'll be an absolute Godsend in the first six to twelve months.
There's lots of apps out there to help. The CSN should be able to advise. The Diabetes UK web-site is also a very good source of info.
You will need to keep an eye on him though. Although teenagers are generally OK with handling their condition, the fact that they're going through puberty can cause some problems.
*Although he's a teen he's still classed as paediatric for these purposes.
Hope he GWS @fossyant
10 yr old lad is currently in with double pneumonia since yesterday - I am covering nights.
Sorry to hear the news.Confirmed type 1 diabetes.
Guess we've got some learning to do. Must be an app for food counting which he will be ok with.
Might get him a Triban 3 to cheer him up
