I'm sure your boy will have it under control and adapt and adopt in no time at all. Best wished to him, and good luck to you.

Sorry to hear Fossy Jnr's been ill, but glad he's on the mend and must be a relief to know the cause of it. Good luck with moving forward, absorbing all the new info (and not letting on about how scary it all seems!!!) and to Fossy Jnr getting back into his normal routine again.

Sorry to hear about this Fossyant. A word of warning about Diabetes UK. The "base you diet on starchy carbs" idea is disputed and not great for diabetes in the eyes of some experts. Of course there is criticism of the other side of the other side of the spectrum with the ideas of people like Dr Richard Bernstein (type1 diabetes patient and doctor who is around 80 and still practicing) who advise a very low carb approach with many suggesting their methods are not good either. A great example from Diabetes UK is one webpage stating that eating fat with sugar slows down the increase in blood glucose levels so it's not a good idea to use food with fat and sugar to deal with a hypo. On their other pages they tell you to eat high carbs and low fat to help manage your blood glucose levels. Inconsistent and open to misinterpretation. I guess the point of this post is to question the information given and look at all sides of the argument and see what works best for your son. I'm not qualified either way and would not presume to tell you what is best in your situation. I have a couple of relatives with T2 including my mum which is obviously very different to T1 and they struggle with the mixed information out there available to diabetics.

Don't forget there's guys like this out there fighting the good fight and showing that it doesn't have to hold you back.

A type 1 I work with has previously suggested this forum for opinions from other sufferers.

I'm the one stopping over tonight. Knackered.com

Knackered indeed - <passes fossy a sandwich and flask of coffee> Hope Jnr settles in the coming days. The injecting takes time to get used to (at least it did with my sister - think she was 14 - the first stomach one was particularly troublesome for her).

I don't suppose they'll let you bring your turbo and bike onto the ward to help take your mind off things? :giggle:

Gaz has my turbo, but I do have rollers, but I think falling off in a children's ward isn't a good idea.

Why not? You'd be providing entertainment.

Hope he continues to get better - I've just seen this.

Ask to see a Dietitian as soon as possible; they should really help.

And I'd echo the Balance magazine. Copies arrive for SWMBO.

Only just seen this, hope you both had a good night.

Thinking of all you parents out there with sick kids - don't forget to look after yourselves as well.
