He is now finger pricking and looks like he is well organised. Hopefully home tomorrow - they had suggested he might go home for tonight, then back in, but we aren't ready and I need to tidy his room (its a mess as all teenagers rooms are).

I decided to get him a laptop that could play games, especially Simulation games as our PC's and laptops at home are very old. Bike rides are off limits at the minute.

Soo I'm playing on a new Core I7 lappy with 12 GB Ram, 17 inch screen, with Nvidia 2GB GEForce graphics. Flip its quick compared to our old ones.

You got who a laptop?

Friend who was our best man was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes [a relief for the rest of us as we suspected something worse as he refused to go to the doctor] has a fantastic 'fountain pen' unit that fires an insulin unit through his skin - it's really neat and simple.

Well done Fossy Junior and well done you for getting him sorted out so quickly!

They haven't mentioned a fountain one. My lads looks like a pen, but you pop an ultra fine needle on it, pop it in your skin (the device limits the depth), and press the button and just hold for 10 seconds. The amount of insulin is miniscule.

Still scary.

I wont get a look in at he laptop after tonight.

We. Have letters for our employers saying we need time off to get this right. There is going to be some serious learning to do especially cycling. I know my stuff for a normal person, but I am really going to be Jon's wing man for any bike rides. We have still said we plan to be at the CC Velodrome event mid April, but we will be coming off for bloods regular.

The new machines for bloods are like £15 each, looks like a Garmin 200. 50 sticks are nearly £20 quid, and as a kid you are doing prick tests 10 times a day. Thank god for the NHS.

We've had fabulous help from Stepping Hill in Stockport, the kids staff go over and above. I've not had a bad word to say myself either as an adult, other than you get shipped out fast, which is good for an adult. As a kid, they won't let you go unless it's all OK.

I've not thought about it from a cost point of view before, children will get it free anyway, but for adults is it free or do they have to do some kind of repeat prescription to bring the cost down?

Just seen this. Glad all is sorted and although you guys have alot to learn it will be routine before you know it. Fossy Jnr sounds like he is handling it amazingly well and has fantastic support!!! Hope you guys are back cycling asap!!

I think as adults type 1 diabetics are exempt from prescription charges..(my BIL is T1, diagnosed at 37 around 4 years ago). As a severe asthmatic dependant on steroids (9 sets of meds a month just for my asthma), I'm not except but you can pay once a year which is currently £104. that applies to England only. I think Scotland and Wales have simply done away with prescription charges.

That's right. I applied for a medical exemption certificate when I was diagnosed wth Type 1 and it covers all my medication, including my asthma meds, and any prescriptions for things like antibiotics if I need them. It seems a bit unfair it covers everything but I'm not complaining.
