Hi i have done most of the coast to coast rides in the Uk but came across this little gem. Its a new route starting from Morecambe and finishing in Bridlington. Thought i would have a go, well i have got to say its the best coast to coast ride i have ever done. I first came across it in my local paper, but i did a search and came across a great website called www.wayoftheroses.co.uk Is there anybody else who has done this great route?

Was originally planning to do it this coming week, but have had to take a short break from cycling while I recover from a minor op.

Glad to read it was so good. How long did it take you gaz007?

Like Lowrider, I'm sort of planning to do this next year. My wif e and I have rented a cottage just outside Bridlington next Easter and I was planning to cycle there. If you don't mind me asking how long did it take you and did you camp or B & B ? if so where abouts. cheers

Some friends suggested doing it as a camping trip next spring - leisurely like, I would imagine. The signs for it are up in York. It'll take some determination to pass within 500 yards of my home, and keep riding....

Actually, it passes even closer to their flat! I suspect we'd make York a night's stopover for some home comfort and then do the leg to Brid the next day...

Interesting route, but it does seem to have some odd diversions adding on extra miles. I can understand avoiding A roads, but for instance south of Driffield, from Kirkburn why not go Southburn to Hutton, rather than heading further south? I can possibly see why the route might then head into Driffield for an accommodation stop though, although bearing in mind you're then only 18½ to the end, it would be a bit pointless doing that, so that diversion could be avoided by going across to Wansford.

Agreed, Kirkburn, Southburn, Hutton, Skerne, Wansford then Nafferton would be a better alternative.

I have to say if I was cycling from York to Bridlington I wouldn't go via Driffield at all - not that there is anything wrong with Driffield. But there are more direct and arguably more scenic routes on quiet roads.
