Frames on a £1k bike

I agree with 400bhp, frames at that price point and made sold by the Trek\Specialized\Cannondale or made by Giant will all be worth hanging top end parts off, so I expect it would make more sense to trust in that and focus on getting the geometry you really want rather than focussing on the manufacturer.

Just FYI, I ended up with a CAAD8 w/Tiagra which got it's first outing yesterday. Have to say it feels like a significant step up from the triban and given that it's well worth spending money over time on better components I think this one's a keeper .

Mmm no, there's a reason why the 2300 equipped Canondales are £200 more expensive and it's got nothing to do with branding. Nothing wrong with the T3 (that's what I'm riding atm) but I've ridden other bikes and there are better frames out there.

Nice bike, I am sure you will be happy with it for some time. I have been riding my CAAD9 for 3.5 years now, only recently upgraded from Tiagra to SRAM Red, well worth holding onto the frame for many years and upgrading kit down the line as and when required.

That's the plan Rob, I figured Tiagra would be a good minimum as it's 10 speed so I can upgrade parts of the groupset to 105 or Ultegra (or perhaps the SRAM equivalent) a bit at a time rather than doing a whole load in one lot. FWIW, there was a guy on the ride today riding a R400 frame and it still looked great.

The one thing that's struck me over the two rides I've had on it so far is that it's less harsh on rougher tarmac and it seems to 'glide' along rather than constantly having to push as I did on the Triban even with the wheel upgrade.
