I noticed his garden is getting a little bit overgrown when I went past his house the other day. He obviously didnt have a steam driven lawn mowing device in his equipment!

True, they were always intelligently filmed, with Freds sheer enthusiasm showing through
Later series, where he looked at Industrial Heritage were equally brilliant
The only other presenter I can think of that show that level of enthusiasm/excitement about their subject are;
Adam Hart-Davies
Mark Williams (possibly chosen, so the programmes could be sold to local education authorities, as the kids would know him from Harry Potter, or 'The Fast Show'??)
And, of course, Freds successor........ Guy Martin
It's 'Carnival of Venice', try it here from about 1.20

The camera-man & sound recordist in those earlier programmes were reputed to have hobbies/pastimes as climbers

I saw him once, as 'An Audience with...', at the City Varieties (the venue for the BBC programme 'The Good Old Days') in Leeds
It was a brilliant evening, seen Fred there too, in a similar evening
