Can anyone enlighten me on this please?

http://www.nokia.co.uk/

I notice that the download is not available for my phone (6303c) but I am informed that it is being rolled out to all Nokias. Does anyone know if this is the case?

My phone currently has maps but does this really mean that we can have satnav on Nokias for free?

I think that is what is being claimed but I am not sure. I am a bit of a technophobe so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds similar to the Google maps ap you can get. It uses data from the mobile network to provide a GPS type location system, though not as accurate.

Just downloaded it free from Ovi store. Thanks for the heads up.
It's a complete program maps and navigation. It automatically replaced my preinstalled Ovi maps.

Be careful!

Some contracts deal with maps as data and this can have significant penalties under "fair use policies" and download limits. Maps are not lightweights when it comes to file size.

It's different from google maps because you can pre-load maps to you phone. You need the ovi maps/nokia maps (forget what they're calling it now) loader, and enough room on your memory card to store the maps.

Download and install map loader to your pc, download the maps you want, then transfer them to the phone. I did this prior to our last tour in France/Belgium, and it did save our bacon when we were struggling to find our accomodation in Brugge. If you have a data plan with your network provider, you can still download maps on the fly of course, although pre-loading them has the info there quicker.

To be clear: YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY DATA CHARGES FOR GETTING THE MAPS!

If you have a gps enabled phone, think about getting nokia sportstracker too, a great little app for tracking cycling, running, walking etc mileage.

I quite like the endomondo app you can get from the ovi store. Probably available on i-phone etc.

Uses satnav to track you and record average speed, routes etc and various other stuff. It then sends it to the website where you can log on and admire your progress.

satnav will ignore the fact that I may have gone further by going up a steep hill and then down again so average speed data from is is useless unless you live in Holland.

Routes - Surely you have found then on a map of some sort (paper or screen) so you already have this.
