I've not killed a freezer before and don't want to rush and replace if it can be fixed.

The freezer compartment on my unknown model of Brandt fridge freezer has died. I might be able to find out the model number but still wouldn't know what's gone wrong to identify what was needed and then might struggle to fit it if I did.
I've lost my receipt and it's about eight years old but there's websites selling spares and they might be able to identify the model. Maybe.

Have you been able to fettle a freezer before?

If I do end up needing a new/secondhand freezer I wanted to keep the old one running for the fridge and not replace the whole thing. There's nothing running on the freezer and the light for it is off, should I try and check it's not drawing any power or trust my observations?

If not repairable or no secondhand are found, I'm a bit stuck for time to hunt one out in or near Oldham, how inefficient would an A or A+ rated one be compared to an AA+ rated one?

Lots of questions but any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,I used to repair fridge freezers and It sounds like an electrical fault,
Have a look round the back at the bottom,do you have 2 compressors(the large black thing) If ones warm and the others cold,
then your fault lies in the freezer circuit somewhere,If you've only got 1 compressor then it could be a module fault ,
If its a frost free fridge freezer the freezer compartment is cooled by a fan blowing cold air across the evaporator fins,
If you've no power to the fan the evaporator will block up with ice and the freezer compartment will not get down to temp.

I could come and have a look at it for you and give you a quick diagnosis, I'm only in Shaw.

If your considering buying another stay away from frost free models I used to ten times as many frost free models as conventional
fridge freezers

Hope this gives you some help

Cheers Paul

The cheapest board I can find is just under £80 delivered from here.

Too pricey to risk it? I'm tempted to try it even though your advice was that sort of price would be a bit dear for something that could go again at any time.

Think a new one is in order. I'm not keen on buying one but Paul reckoned when he was having a look that to spend about £80 on a new PCB was a bit of a gamble, my dad thinks so too. And so does his mate. The new part is almost £80 delivered.

I would'nt spend that much on a new board myself unless it was a just a couple of
years old,You could fit a new board and it may work fine for another 5 years or it
may last a week and blow again,It's a gamble, but if you can afford to lose £80
then it might be worth having a try.
Have a look at your board before you order it to see if looks the same,I've been
out to many appliances where the part ordered looks nothing like the part on the
machine

Regards Paul

It's this part 26.

I'm confident it will fix it but not sure for how long. If it blows the next time it frosts up then that could be in 3 months time based on how long between defrosts recently and I'm back to square one and could lose a lot of food again.

Not that I buy anything expensive but do invest a bit of time and effort in making batches of cooking for the freezer.
