Seems from all the forecasts I looked at that I will need to use my studded tyres next week for the first time since February the 2nd last year. May even need them tomorrow morning if the forecasts turn out to be too optimistic.

I had shorts on today, it was fine this afternoon but too cold first thing. Of course I am "well insulated".

It was a bit nippy here this morning. Even though i had my gloves on my hands were feeling the cold at the end of my commute. There was a few patches of ice and a heavy frost so i may put on the spikey tires this weekend.

Put the spikes on last night, a little slower this morning and more effort than normal but the lack of wind was a great help. Probably could have gotten away with not using them but there were frozen pools of water on some parts of my commute.
Decided "why take the added risk" plus it's good exercise especially when trying to chase down a cyclist in front of me I know is quite quick, turned off just as I caught up, he probably didn't know I was there as he never looked back not even when overtaking a parked lorry.

I'm blaming the guy who wanted gloves for milder weather And on that subject Aldi gloves do not keep your fingers warm at 2ºc!

In 3 or 4 hours it will be Sub zero in Newcastle until Monday.

Let's hope the thaw is not pushed away like last year!
