I don't mind the cold at all - in fact I quite like it.
I've got a pair of Sealskinz lobster claw gloves, which are brilliant. Not a hind of cold in my fingers this morning.
The only bit that got cold was my forehead and cheeks.
Like others on here I just use many thin layers. Didn't feel the cold in the slightest. I did take it very easy this morning as there were lots of frozen puddles and glistening roads on my journey in!
I fitted some Marathon Winters to my single speed today - just to bed the studs in for now. Being used to 23-25mm tyres, my legs are still burning from the extra effort. Still, I did manage to find the only patch of ice south of London - the run-off from a farmer's field where I fell off last winter. Not this time though!
So cold that my back brake stopped working as the rear of the bike was covered in ice !, cycling through freezing fog probably did it .Had to use the road bike with gatorskins as the winter hack is still stuck inside the garage so it was a bit dicey in places , coming back at 4.30 pm the single track lane was already frozen over.
Well ... this morning i managed to powerslide my mountain bike as well as i can powerslide my old bmw 740.
I sort of went round a corner, then had that feeling i was falling over, but curiously the bike sort of found some grip and just
went sideways several feet. I wouldn't say it was fun, but i really can't understand how i didn't stuff it.
sunset last night was good and it hadn't warmed up much which made for a good fast ride. this morning wasn't bad riding in and hit 31Mph on the flat . not bad for a MTB (poploc in locked position )
Not quite as frosty this morning, but took the MTB with Spikes again and the scenic route. Much of the TPT was white with 4 days frost. Hope it warms up tomorrow as on another site, which means 12 miles of tarmac with soft tyres - no off road route.
First ride in with the Winters, was very tough going as I haven't ridden the MTB for a while.
The roads round here are very dry, I could've probably got away with the road bike but that crackling from the studs was reassuring.
Feeling it my legs now though!
I am still on the CX bike, not been too bad up to now though there are some icy patches at the edge of the road, and a few frozen puddles.
TPT home again later, at least if I fall off there won't be many witnesses
White over again -2 this morning, came across a few new hazards this morning. Where people had been cleaning there window screens with warm water it lay on the floor and had frozen, leaving littles pools of frozen ice. I wouldn't like to be braking on one of them, you'd deffinately be kissing the Tarmac!
