I'm planning a 35 miler in Northumberland tomorrow. Eek! I can handle a sub-zero commute but 2 hours in the lanes is another matter.

I was out on a 32 miler last night with the temperature showing on the screen of my edge 800.
It dropped to -1c in a couple of places, increasing to +2c within villages.
Saw some hoar frost on the roads, so may put the road bike up and use my mountain bike on the 30's from now on.
(Its nicer riding with its suspension ... just a bit slower).

Multiple layers of thin clothing work for me, with the exception of my socks .... £10 for the pair!
Designed for mountain climbing, good for keeping toes warm.

Not my fault gov
But it was little brisk this morning, although my Aldi gloves were ok, just my feet felt a tad cold.

Hehe I'm actually going to combine the two cheap gloves this weekend, the sport direct specials will slip nicely under the aldi ones^_^

Real struggle this morning. Either run out of energy after record run yesterday, wind changed direction, or sub-zero air a lot harder to get through compared to the light warm stuff yesterday.

Considering this was my first time on my since 22th Dec I didnt do to bad, this is my elevation figures from this morning commute from Dudley to Brum, possible why I didn't feel the cold to much cause Im fat and bloody hard work climbing the hills of the Black Country !!

Well, I did it. Wore two pairs of gloves and my hands went numb immediately. Stopped and removed one pair, and that greatly improved things. Wore two pairs of socks and my hiking boots - a slight loss of performance (soles not v. stiff), but worth it for comfortable toes.

Cycling is definitely toughing me up. About 5 miles in I was thinking 'Am I being silly riding at 0 degrees', then I realised that homeless people sleep out in worse, which prompted me to MTFU!

was cold this morning on the ride in to work. off the main roads where they havent been treated it was a little hairy. amazing how many cars were being tank commanders with a tiny little slot.

lovely sunrise made it a great ride.

Up to now it's been frosty but fairly dry with it round here. Not looking forward to the latter part of this week - if the forecasters have it right, it's going to rain, then freeze. First sign of ice and that's me off the bike (as opposed to falling off the bike, that is).

Do you find them noisy ... i have some maxxis winter mountain tyres (without spikes) and they
make a right old racket. Surprisingly grippy over ice ... providing they're at 20-30psi.
Marathon Winters are very noisy, the spikes make a very loud noise when riding on tarmac although it is a very reassuring noise when it's icy.
