I was going to post Loudon Wainwright's "Old Friend", which contains the line "Memory Lane's a dead-end street", but amazingly couldn't find a good version of it.
Here's his "School Days" instead. I remember him silencing a noisy crowd at Implosion at the Roundhouse one Sunday afternoon in 1971 (possibly his first public performance in the UK?) with the first few bars of this - not bad for one guy with an acoustic guitar and a distinctive voice.
