And, with Thom involved there should be an added bonus. whatever one makes from the debris, there should be 'four sets' of them.

On www.spacetrash.com earlier today, the prognosis was for a direct hit on Aberystwyth.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Oxford was crawling with secret service personnel - in black caps and jumpers, and toting rifles - when Clinton came to visit.

Phew, Thankfully the point of impact appears to be Constitution Hill & the Cliff Railway Linky
Should get a fine view from Wetherspoons plus breakfast @ 7am and Ruddles @ 9am ... and a lift home on a black helicopter?

I see that they've got the bouncy castle ready and waiting. If it's coming from the northwest the spacejunk will probably bounce on to Swansea

Major Tim has regained control:

As of 10:30 a.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 100 miles by 105 miles (160 km by 170 km). Re-entry is expected late Friday, Sept. 23, or early Saturday, Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time. Solar activity is no longer the major factor in the satellite’s rate of descent. The satellite’s orientation or configuration apparently has changed, and that is now slowing its descent. There is a low probability any debris that survives re-entry will land in the United States, but the possibility cannot be discounted because of this changing rate of descent. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 12 to 18 hours.

And how would you know he was right behind you?

In the afternoon there would be a very large shadow in front of you. Wear an odd shaped hat and then you will know it's not your own shadow.

 Calculation based on trigonometry and the size of shadow will tell you how far behind you.

Hmm, you can't cast a light shadow if you're travelling at the speed of light.
However, a neutrino shadow would work apparently, at least if fired from Italy - we'd just need to be travelling deep underground to detect it.
Mind, were we deep underground to start with, we'd be sure to avoid the impact.
I'm off to check if my compact bike tool has a spade extension.

BRACE, BRACE - UARS passes over/thru HPC at 10.04 tonight. This could be the end of FNRttC as we know it, If we survive the Scots get a couple of visitations in the early hours of the morning.

Worse still is the best estmate of final crash site is not far from the Indian sub-continent. So if you need to call your bank, do it now!
