Friday Night Ride to the Cloakroom

Adam's Amazing Adventure #1 - 148.5 miles - which was hard graft in places. 'Challenging' is a polite word - and the 25kms after decanting from the HS1 at Kings Cross was a mere blip on the cycling radar!
I think it was 'Dan'? ( MattH - thank you AdrianC) from yacf who got 'a bit jittery' if he couldn't do a 300km+ each week - he was clever and started in the night, caught and passed the group while we were admiring teapots - oblivious to the torture looming..! Strong rider. Very strong. Nice chap too.

This year's mad cap ideas so far run to :-

Another round M25 ride
Dun Run III - the prequel
Independence Day ride (educational tour of London)
The LL ride - Leicester to London which would be 100 miles which is 2 x L in Roman numerals (clever eh)
A tour of Sheppey
Some other Kentish rides

Another one, although I'm not too sure if it's really viable, ties in with the CTC AGM on Saturday 14th May down in Weymouth. I'm sure there will be some motions which will require some voting against.

I'm assuming the AGM will start at 1.30 pm like last year, although currently the CTC web page still links to the 2010 Agenda. As it's 130 miles from London, you'd have to leave at midnight on the Friday night or a bit later, if you were going to cycle there before hand, and then you're likely to fall asleep during the AGM. Which would mean you'd miss all the fun lively debate.

So, on the basis that cycling down isn't viable, my idea was to get a train in the morning either to Weymouth (or possibly somewhere further up the line to have a bit of a cycle in), attend the AGM which in any event is bound to drag on for several hours towards 5 pm, have some food, find some suitable watering hole to while away a few hours, have a bit more food, and then set off late evening and do a night ride back to London, and so arrive back perhaps 8 - 9 am just in time for the Sunday ride (possibly).

Here for rides.
What a shame that my membership will have lapsed by the time the next AGM comes around. Still Weymouth is likely to be lovely at that time of year.

13th May is the FNR to Brighton, which is still 125 miles from Weymouth so you'd have to go some to get there for 1.30pm.

When I first glanced at this I assumed that the idea was to ride down overnight to the AGM, have a big breakfast, while away the morning in a pub, then roll into the AGM, starting off a bit rowdy at the back then gradually all nodding off during the discussions! Sounded quite fun How silly that would be!

An excellent thread.

I must nominate the 'Teef for at least two awards:

- Wit of the year, for many observations, interpretations, puns and jokes that have made my sides ache - often in an open plan office with lots of people wondering what my problem is.

- Photoshopper of the year - for fabricating evidence of buff theft and other camera-lies!

Oh - thanks Frank.
Outrageous suggestions by you...your involuntarily bodily movement has been noted on several rides thus far and...congratulations on your foray into marketing.

Trust me. At times, the CTC AGM would just be too soporific to attend after doing a night ride - you'd be fast asleep in 5 minutes after only the 2nd query about whether the point of order raised by the 75 year old Right to Ride representative from Balamory is referring to an actual breach of the rules or merely a possible infraction of what the Chair thought the Rules were.

It'll be far better to have a gentle night ride back afterwards.

You're right.

It's clear that Simon has no regard for the machinations of the CTC in having a FNRttC organised for the Friday!
Simon's membership has lapsed. I'll rejoin as an affiliate member if the need arises, but with scarcely more enthusiasm than Greg.
