On a lighter note, I've just taken delivery of this box:-

Full of pre-talced inner tubes courtesy of a special offer from Evans - £2.75 each. Hopefully they won't be needed too much!

Still no punctures. Just finished 3 weeks on the Marathon winter tyres in view of recent ice & snow. They'll stay on for a bit longer I think.

He he - no, not for me. I've swapped back to normal Marathon's on the commuter bike.

Still no punctures!

However, I did have a tyre explode on the Planet X last night, but that was due to me pinching the inner tube, after my usual weekly routine of deflating the tyres to carefully check for embedded bits of glass & gravel.

Uh oh. That joy is yet before me. Though, to be fair, I did take the rear M+ off and put it back on again as part of the Brompton maintenance course I did at CTUK and it wasn't nearly as agonizing as all the horror stories had led me to expect. Would prefer not to do it in the dark and/or wet though.

There seem to be a few places doing deals on Spesh tubes at the moment - none as good value as Adams uninflated prices though.

Re punctures, I forgot to add, that I'm still OK despite riding through loads of glass in Chelsea and Parsons Green on Sunday, including going over a small pane of glass which I hadn't spotted, that actually shattered under my tyres!

Some people might say that the anti puncture fairy that protects me has a stronger mojo than the puncture fairy, but I think it's down to the tyres.

Oh no - don't say that. A once erstwhile operation reduced to minimal stock, with three smartly dressed people equipped with clipboards asking if there is anything they can do to help. (I can just about manage to sit at the bar in the Food Hall on a Thursday evening...soon they will be there with a 'test your units-ometer' )

But I agree - with two Tims and an Adam, there's not much that escapes the rolling remedy machine.

Hmmm...having changed my first 'commuter puncture' in the cold, dark and wet a few weeks ago, I'm contemplating them marathon things! Especially as I'm now riding from home to Victoria each day; have you seen the roads around Victoria? Diabolical, with potholes I could lose a person in, not just a wheel!

Still cycling in wind and rain y' all, so looking forward to the first Fnrttc soon!

I never remember seeing the roads in Victoria...no falls there though - yet. Be careful! Marathon + tyres are 'way to go'. They allow the unexpected to try it on with you...and the unexpected nearly always comes off worst. As Adam, our favourite Flying Dodo might say "Puncture, puncture, puncture, puncture" etc. Anyway, feel free to do anything you like with 'my' threads, Naomi. Like a big bag of crisps, it's for sharing!

I got 8000 commuter miles out of the little marathon racer that used to grace the front of BigOrangeBeastie. Given it was only a 20 incher, that's a touch over 8 million revolutions. Two punctures in that time, one of which would have punctured your average house brick. The marathon+ that replaces it is heavier and slower, and much harder to get on/off. If you don't pinch the opposite side and feed the slack around a few times before trying, you can wave goodbye to entire sets of levers. They don't puncture much (I've been unlucky of late) but boy can they be a pain when they do. Before you commit, make sure you can get it on/off the rim as otherwise you're walking to the shop.

Feeling nostalgic for the night crew I've been looking at CC threads every so often as I await the arrival of Eenie Weenie.

While I congratulate the 2010 winners I'll admit to feeling a little disappointed that Cathy and I missed out on best dressed nomination for the matching pink outfits on the tandem. Sigh, must have been one hell of a lycra combination that won it!
