secret tests undertaken at the Madeira Cafe demonstrated that bacon baguettes made up to three hours in advance and wrapped in tinfoil would suffer no loss of crispness, moistness, tenderness and flavourness. Hence my invitation.....

Hi folks

I'm popping my FNRttC cherry. You'll be gentle, won't you?

Listen, I'll give up HFW, but you'll have to prise the poultry out of my cold dead hands.
I'm really pleased you're coming out with us User482! I'm not sure how pleased you'll be if you spend seven hours riding in to the rain with only a bacon baguette to sustain you (albeit a bacon baguette of surpassing scrumptiousness, worthy of HFW himself).

Talking of which - next year Her Nibs will be in cahoots with HFW. I wonder if she can tempt him out?

Ditto!

She's forgiven him, then?

Her nibs? Is that some sort of pen name for the Montblanche' of lady cyclists..?

User482 can come with HFW in tow as alterego...particularly after the splendid bun recipe in last Saturday's Grauniad colour supplement, bettered only by Ottolengi's cauliflower cake (needing ten eggs, so there's a job for the chicken too). If the real HFW does make it next year, it is conditional on those buns making an appearance - in abundance, preferably - definitely!

On the subject of food, and the vehicle with which to wash it down, would it be appropriate to ask the Waterfront Café to provide cask ale of 'merchantable quality' - by Shepherd Neame for example - rather than the burp-o-matic stuff available? It seems there are a load of old soaks like Rich p and 3BM - and User482 - on this ride and a fair few kids too...I only ask in the best interests of health & safety etc...

Good call Martin, and if not a cask at least a few hundred dozen bottles of

£2.05 per bottle downstairs from me...has been on offer 'buy two get the third free' which roughly translates as a jingly visit or two to the bottle bank! ;)

Barperson: 9 gallon firkins of Late Red are available Sept, Oct etc...Whitstable Bay is a summery haf (;)) but as it is going to be a scorching Autumn day it might be 'passable' - ahem...

Ideally, the beer Co could sponsor the peloton for the duration of breakfast...

Oh - by the way, don't forget to bring £1 coins everyone - to get rid of that atrocious lift music that pervades the indoor section of the establishment.

Hey Dell

I'm pondering which bike to bring. I have a carbon road bike, or there's my steel Thorn with SKS mudguards and pannier rack. Which wouls you suggest?
