I've a question for those riding back to Preston, as that's what I'm planning to do. How long do you think it will take? Or more specifically, what time do you think we'll arrive? I'd like to book my train tickets in the next day or two, so will need a starting time for the trip back down south.

TIA

It is about 20 flatish miles as far as I know. A leisurely 1:40 plus a 20 minute puncture contingency. How does that sound?

Pretty much what I was going on. I'm booked on a train (north) from Preston at 10:58 so I was planning on setting off for the station at 9ish.

Train tickets have now been obtained. Don't arrive until 23:46, but I see it's only a very short trip. As for heading back, I'm being lazy and catching the train from Blackpool, and got a deal on a bourgeois first class ticket from Preston back down to Euston. Thanks, 'teef, for the heads up.

Dell, are you still doing the recce on 28 March? I've just got back from a trip and see that you've started a new thread, with no mention that I can find of the planned recce.

I have booked the day off work to accompany you.

Still on, and looking forward to it. I think there'll be three or four of us

That was Blackpool back to Liverpool. I don't think you need to book for a train from Liverpool to Manchester either. Just be prepared for the Friday night drunks and scallies..

You are right, you don't need to book, so I shall allow myself a few trains leeway in case I get a grumpy guard or a glut of cyclists all jammed in the doorway of the one I want to get.

I'm coming.
Booked on the 20:40 from Euston, in to Manchester at 22:48
And coming back on the 13:44 (sleeper service) from Blackpool

Anyone else on my trains?
Which pub are we meeting in at Manchester?

I've just bought my train tickets. The cheapest least expensive option I was able to find was a return ticket from London to Blackpool via Manchester. 72.90 quid. Booking it drove me completely crazy, but eventually I managed. Probably I'm paying some kind of stupid-foreigner-premium

but, hey, it's just money

.
I'll be on the 7.40pm Virgin Train arriving 10.16 at Manchester Picadilly and will go back home from Blackpool at 11.15am via Preston.

I'm really looking forward to this.
Cheers

Stick me in for this, please, Simon.

BUT it is going to rather depend on the logistics of bike transport on Virgin Trains, and if anyone has any sage advice or experience they could pass on, I'd be really grateful.

Going to tackle the friendly booking staff at Euston this evening, as I have a £25 rail voucher expiring in April and burning a hole in my pocket.

If it's not gonna happen, I'll let you know immediately.

Are you accepting late entries?

I quite fancy taking a train down to Manchester and riding home via Blackpool. Overnight riding is an efficient way to get miles in - assuming I don't need to sleep

Folks,

Couldn't find a cheap train ticket and thought I might drive and join the adventure. I have never been to Blackpool so it could be fun?

Does anyone fancy considering a car share. Have estate and happy to drive if you can make it to Reading.
