Forgot about Bury. I really meant on all that that I pretty much figured out a bigger group would more than nullify all the stoppages we did and round up. Figured 7:30am arrival which is where the 1hr30 spare came from which doesn't mean the rolling speed at the front is any slower, but the hour and a half is for the back. Only guess work anyway, unrealistic assumptions? Quite possibly, not done one of the recces before, not sure how they compare. Sure you'll have a better idea on Friday.

I can't see a large group doing Ribchester to Blackpool at anything like the overall average time we did, which is not a problem at all. If the pace slows down at the front from what we did I think it's all right, although people have lack of sleep + travel to factor in.

I'll be in Inskip with a roadside stall selling performance enhancing drugs, caffeine suppositories, Viagra etc under my new "Lance" brand.

Just don't mistake your bottle of Tippex for my liquid Viagra or you'll arrive in Blackpool with a massive correction.

I am (really truly) not going to carry a pannier full of cake on this one. If you want a load of Crinklycake (coffee cake, fruit'n'nut cake, banananannana and chocolate cake, St Clements cake, and I've even branched out into flapjack territory.... place your orders now!) to scoff before we set off, shout up and I'll bake it, but any that I can't give away at the start will be getting left on the Town Hall steps!

(Adrian, however, is on a not-banana-cake promise that I haven't forgotten)

Dell's cafe in Ribchester does some pretty decent cakes. I told the owner we expected him to act as Lancashire's hospitality ambassador to you Londoners so in addition to the cakes I'm sure he will be offering Bury black puddings and tripe, Chorley cakes, Goosnargh duck pate and all kinds of other regional delights.

Email sent, hopefully not too late. Not been on the forum for ages. Forgot to say I have read the basics page and have insurance through both BC and CTC.

Oh I love this bit: Blackpool Police: "CCTV cameras on Lytham Road picked up superficial cracks on the road surface of the railway bridge near to the zebra crossing. We sent out officers to check it out. It's known as a weak bridge anyway. It was deemed to be safe."

I would really trust a plod to check the condition of a bridge for me! They are qualified engineers after all! I wonder what the Police think about all the bits of rusty metal that keep dropping off Blackpool tower?

Final recce ride done. Other than getting caught in a thunderstorm, and having a punch thrown at me, it went ok. Those hills are something, and the downhills at night are not for the zooming of. And the descent in to Blackburn really is lethal. It's going to be hard work.

Were you watching a performance on the seafront or is it more serious than that? I suspect it is.
