Why are Colinj & potsy & all the guys who did this ride last week on the Sunday not up for this?
Good question - pretty poor showing from us Northern lot. Haven't even seen any expressions of interest from the York contignent, either.
I, er ...

Would love to join you chaps on what is obviously a well organised ride, but i'm already entered for the Wrynose or Bust / Bay Dash on the Sunday so don't want to risk damaging the bike.
Would love to join you chaps on what is obviously a well organised ride, but i'm already entered for the Wrynose or Bust / Bay Dash Spring Into The Dales audax (which has about 8,000 ft of steep climbing!) on the Sunday so don't want to risk damaging the bike my legs, especially because I'd have wanted to ride back from Blackpool if I'd done this FNRTTC.

Have a good one folks!

PS: I've just checked the OS map and I see that all the spot heights on the B5266 are between 6m and 20m although as the road passes the village of Hardhorn (great name!) there's a hill that reaches the dizzy height of 24m.
On our recent Blackpool-Fleetwood trip my GPS recorded the lowest altitude reading that I've ever seen on it - minus 5 metres on the slipway up from the ferry at Knott End. I thought it was playing up but then noticed that there were barnacles going several metres above my head on a nearby post. (The tide was out.)

Indeed I am. Minus the rack so very limited carrying capacity - if you want cake you eat it at the start or secrete it about your bicycle/personage yourself, and incur the wrath of Dellzeqq!

Noted. I won't be bringing brownies this time. I intend to bake some rich bread, either rye or oatmeal bread & bring it for savory snackage.

Can't decide on the heavy wheels 'cause of the potholes or the light ones for the climbing, probably the former. Re the Flyde, the real deal is the wind. No fun out there on a windy day...

Noted Colin but you have to do at least one of these rides. Overnighters are the worst and best rides i have done.

there are 24 hour petrol stations for that kind of thing.....

I shall be carrying half a bottle of Lucozade sport. And that will be for somebody else. And my wheels will weigh 1380g

(Hopefully,) I've already done my worst ones! I've only ridden a reasonable distance at night when struggling solo on November and February 200s in very cold conditions, desperate for the rides to be over and terrified of getting a puncture on top of some isolated 1,100 ft hill, with fingers potentially too numb to be able to fix it. Those cold, dreary audaxes put me off night riding.

The clincher for me was the two lunatic drivers racing each other who nearly killed me on the North West Passage in 2007. I had reflective gear on and fairly bright lights on the bike but the first driver still passed me going scarily fast and only a couple of feet away. His mate was gaining on him and went by so close that I was blown sideways off the road by the shock wave. It was very clear to me that I wasn't enjoying myself and that I didn't want to die up there alone on the hills.

Perhaps I'd feel okay riding with better lights in a large group, but even so, I'd rather do a night ride in the summer. I think Ravenbait's Dumb Run might pull me in eventually. I fancy a cycling holiday in Scotland and I could plan one to coincide with that.

Anyway - don't make me feel guilty! I wish I was fit enough to ride from Manchester to Blackpool on Friday night & early Saturday morning, ride back to Hebden Bridge Saturday lunchtime and then set off at 09:00 on the Sunday with sufficient energy and enthusiasm to get round SITD and actually enjoy it ... but I'm not!

Enjoy this FNRTTC and I'll maybe join y'all on a future summer night ride!

Are there any non CTC places left for this ride?

Now I'm going to have to drive down  instead of using the nice trains I'm trying to work on a couple people but I don't think they are CTC members (I'm pretty certain one's BC).

On the Bognor ride there was a chap from Bognor who had a BC licence, which led to what was described as 6 pages of surrealism.

I used to live just outside Cockermouth
