Could somebody lend me a spare second front light for tomorrow, as well as Becs? I do have one decent front light but a back-up would be cool.

Actually I've had to bail from this one, I've got some mild back pain I don't want to aggravate and haven't been sleeping too well. Thanks for all the offers of lights though, hopefully I'll get my own by Brighton!

Reason I don't want to purchase a second light myself at this moment is that I'll have a new cycle-to-work scheme that I can start on 1 July, so seems a waste to spend money now without the tax benefits.

Cheers

Will have a spare Fenix with me if needed.
I'm down to be one of the Tail end Charlie's.... so should be easy to find...
Also Yellow and White BTwin Road Bike stands out a bit.

I'd tend to agree with Simon, since there are a couple of steepish hills in the middle of the Whitstable ride, whereas I can't think of anything equivalent on the Bognor ride.

Neither route is really that hilly, compared to Ditchling on the default Brighton route.

The one I did in Jan with Adam is definitely easier than Whitstable which I think is the toughest of the FNRttCs. I've only done Ditchling once but found it, like Box Hill, to be more reputation than reality.

You could always try going up it a little more slowly, like the rest of us...

Box Hill and Ditchling are quite different beasts. Box Hill has a pretty consistent gradient throughout and it is not hard to find a gear that suits, sit down and grind or spin to taste. Ditchling has lots of gradient changes which makes it much harder to get a settled rhythm. For people who are not familiar with it, the sudden steeper bits can catch them out.

I wasn't trying to say they are similar climbs, I agree entirely with what you say Ditchling is the tougher. What I was trying to say is that both climbs have been given a reputation that I think isn't entirely deserved. I'd rather climb Box Hill than Ditchling for exactly the reasons you gave, however I'd rather climb Ditchling than say Westerham Hill because WH is a b****h to climb.
