Is this ride full now?

If you're still trying to get on this ride, then you need to contact Simon via fnrttc@yahoo.co.uk. If it is full, this will at least get you on the standby list.

DAMN IT! My first post in 10 months and you're on my case within minutes.

I look forward to the retribution. I've had 6 months off the bike due to ankle injury that just wouldn't clear up. BUT I'M BACK NOW. . . and fatter fitter than ever.

There are a number of factors which limit the size of the ride, I'm sure Simon will be along shortly to correct me if I get this wrong. :becool:

I think Simon wants to make sure that there are enough people to do jobs like way-marking and TECing, as well as be throughout the ride to catch any problems as early as possible. I suspect this doesn't limit the size of the ride too much, since he probably always has a suite significant number of "old timers".

More importantly, the locations that are used for the half-way stop (aka 3am-ses) and breakfast, can only take a certain number of people. If we do get some inclement weather, and there was a smattering of showery rides last year, you can't really have people standing around outside for an hour whilst others are indoors eating bacon butties and drinking tea. If the halfway stop (and probably to a lesser extent the destination) can't take and feed the full ride then things aren't going to work.

Since this ride has it's halfway stop at a service station (on the North side of the Dartford crossing) it can take quite a lot of people. The Rose in Southend-on-Sea can also take quite a few people if the upstairs is opened up, so I think Simon is entertaining the max for this ride at around 75 people, and I think that's about the number of people that he's got.

Other rides have smaller midway stops (eg Andy's Cafe in Rochester for Whitstable, and the Cabin Cafe in Faygate for the Brighton/Bognor routes), so are limited to something more like 60 people. Even with that number, it's often quite a squeeze to get everyone in, and does require some shuffling around to give the late arrivals somewhere to sit after those who got there first have finished (and having been at the end, as a TEC, more than once, I appreciate it when people do give me a chance to sit down for a while to drink my tea).

The two Tims and me make the ideal three-piece suite! :becool: Enough to cushion the blow anyway...

Heah, you try and write a load of blurb like that without making the odd typo, and whilst trying to recover a server with RAID array issues.

:troll: ;)

Weather forecast now for heavy rain
BBC says so, Metcheck says it looks OK. Too early for real accuracy yet, and anyway, should be nicer out than November was....
