Is there an etiquette with regards to lights, flashers on or off? Just wondering like, 'cos cycling behind umpteen bikes with red flashy lights could be a bit annoying.

None, just be sensible if it's a retina burner and aim it to the tarmac.

We had a no flashing rear lights rule on a recent night ride and it made a considerable improvement, more comfortable, more relaxing .... and thus was generally considered 'a good thing'.
After a while in a group with flashing lights I start to feel a bit disorientated and need to ride at the front. Not so with steady lights. I can't see any disadvantage once out of the city.

It's looking like it's going to be a nice and mild, even warm night ride. BBC showing 16degs during the night.
But a very wet SMRbtH

Genuine question: my last train gets into Paddington at 22.15. At that time on a Fri night, dressed as I am, unable to leave bike unattended for long, how should I fill the time till we meet up?

In response to the gloom about the weather prospects, here's Brian Eno's take on it.

And no, I didn't just listen to all of it. Or did I?

Just... why? Maybe Roxy Music were better off without him after all.

I'm not entirely sure why anyone would need to ride the (horrible) route to Ashford. ???

The train from Ashford to Brighton (where I live) takes 1hr 45m. The train from Whitstable to London takes 1hr 25m, then it's another hour from London to Brighton. So I had manly thoughts of adding a few miles to the ride in return for an easier train journey home. But the combination of Saturday's apocalyptic weather forecast and the prospect of beer in Whitstable is making me doubt the wisdom of this plan.

Not just wet but "tornadoes and fierce winds, enormous hailstorms and potentially DEADLY lightning strikes" according to Dell's link from the Daily Express, a paper renowned for its measured reports. I'll see how it goes with my secret plan.

I find that it pays to shop around. The BBC are offering this for Saturday morning.

A little black cloud with the sun peeping round the end, and a couple of blue raindrops. No mention of DEADLY lightning, or hailstones leaving 5-foot craters or tornadoes. They're also offering a tail wind of 11 something or others back towards the smoke.

So the blue raindrops will strike me on the back, propelling me forward, and the peeping sun will turn them to steam, further propelling me, no pedalling required. What could possibly go wrong?

It was I reading The Daily Express strictly for work purposes
At The Towers we have to read the gutters its the price we pay for the glory of working in tv
As I was saying to Conway earlier, Agent H likes a bit of an apocalypse, it looks like fun to me

Pfft. I'll see your heavy showers, and raise you a Met Office sanctioned cloud (and no rain) in the morning:
