I really do try and not get wound up by idiot drivers.....which is hard when they're putting your safety/life at risk. I've found that a friendly wave at the considerate drivers is far more productive than giving the old

to the few idiots. In fact, I get quite a few friendly toot-toots from motorists that pass me every day. This, in part can be put down to me being more recognizable due to my unusual form of transport, but since I started thanking every motorist who is patient and passes safely, I've got more friendly toots.

That's exactly what I've started to do as well

Also having a 1200 lumen front light helps. They think you are a large motorcycle and wait for me to pass

I make it my mission to pull over for at least one driver each day.

On the commute home today I was heading through town and had a car behind me for about half a mile. We were nearing the end of the one way system and I noticed a place for them to overtake, I moved over to the left and waved them through. I got a wave of thanks.
I then realised that it was pointless me doing that as the person turned right just ahead when I was going straight on. It still made me feel good about myself.

You get more out of a wave of thanks than from a middle finger.

The nod needs to be imperceptible, User, to be truly cool, you know it.

I always try and acknowledge with a wave when drivers show some consideration. Or at least mouth a silent thankyou and smile if it's too dangerous to take the hands off the brakes. It doesn't cost anything. I don't know what the drivers think, but if we all do it enough, then hopefully more drivers will respect us cyclists ....

If I'm cycling towards a bus stop and people wave to hail down a bus that's behind, I often wave at them as pretending they were waving at me.

I've been so tempted to High-5 them on many occasions. I did it once, but called out "High-5" to warn the chap, and it gave us and all his mates a good laugh. It was one of those happy cheerful sunny summer days with sillyness in the air. Delightful!

I've seen a few bikes that I confused for old motorbikes just because they had panniers and shining metal mudguards, and a bulky frame. I wonder if they get the same effect.

Been really chuffed with motorists so far this year. All the nodding and waving seems to promote better driver behaviour as well.
Ok, ask me to repeat that line in a weeks time

always let a motorist pass if he is gonna be stuck behind me for a while.
and always wave if someone has let me go or waited for me.
likewise always shout abuse or hand signals if i feel aggrieved
