I thought they were chickeny when I had them - but a much more delicate flavour than that.

Likewise, albeit from a distant memory.

We'd all ordered random things from a menu of a rather fine, but very modestly priced, restaurant in France.
The frogs' legs were actually ordered by someone else, but I took pity on him as he recoiled in horror saying "I can't eat that". When I say "took pity" it's more that I didn't want our party to lose face in front of Johny Foreigner by failing to even try the local delicacies. The one, loosely speaking, French speaker in our party then said, "ah yes, I remember what grenouille are now".

Whilst very nice, and certainly chicken like, they were a bit of a faff to eat for not very much meat. 30 plus years later it's overall still by some way the best meal I've every eaten. We were staying at the municipal campsite, itself an experience, which was more or less a croquet lawn covered in statues in the grounds of a mansion. I do remember groaning in pain most of evening "I've eaten too much ! I"ve eaten too much". It was a small town called Joinville on the Marne.

It may have been on the Marne that I tried mine - in or around Dormans, I think. My favourite stay for food was in the area between the Dordogne and the Lot though, lovely game and coarse fish on most menus.

I loved them. My Dad used to tour Normandy and Brittany with a choir based in Coventry Cathedral. I went with him one year and they were treated to a civic reception in Caen. Seeing frogs legs on the menu I positioned myself on a table with a couple of squeamish types and ended up with three portions. Le Nom.

I'll never forget that time i worked in a French restaurant. The owner threw some slightly going off frogs legs in the bin on a Saturday night. The restaurant didn't open again for three days. I went to chuck some stuff in the same bin and was met by a swarm of bluebottles.. and the stench!!!xx(

Ah yes, les cuisses de grenouille. I tried them once and like the poster above I found them too much faff for too little enjoyment. Give me a piece of cow leg any time.

1980 and our first visit to France. Stopped in a country type pub/restaurant for early evening meal. We didn't speak a word of French and the manager spoke no English. The menu was in French only.
I was asking what certain things were and the (very nice) manager was trying to explain.
For Grenuille he ended up crouched down, hopping around and making the "ribit" froggy noises.
For Jambon he walked around snorting like a pig.
So............................
We ordered both, had a good laugh and really enjoyed both the ham & frogs legs.
As we left we genuinely said to each other "they tasted a bit like chicken"
