Hi

First time into online forums - long time cyclist with a new enthusiasm the past 2 years.

Started cycling again in 1986 as long distance running didn't agree with me - or at least the owner of a Ford Granada didn'yt agree that I should be on the road as well as him. So I turned again to cycling to try and stay fit. Since then I was on and off bike riding - depending on what time of year I decided to restart - early Spring tends to be a good time

New enthusiasm developed after I bought a Trek 1.2 Road bike last year as a special 'getting reemployed treat. This followed rediscovery of my Raleigh Record Sprint road bike and how much twitchier and excitingf the ride with drops is compared to a hybrid. Ironically 2 weeks after buying the Trek I was redundant again and enjoyed the best 3 months of cycling ever with all the unscheduled free time this had to offer

Now I have a new local job where I can cycle to work 10-15 miles each way with options to go off road (on Specialized Crosstrail Hybrid) and miss the commuting traffic - with the option of a quick lunchtime burst on the drops when the cold dark winter mornings are too much to handle

My bike rides run from quickie 5 milers to 40 mile plus rides in all directions to surrounding counties of East Surrey

Having just turned 60 getting out on my bike gives me new energy and helps me relive some of my youth - plus it's just great to be out there discovering locations and sights that you miss in the car but couldn't reach just on foot. The travelling range on my road bike means I have to invent new loops to eat up the miles - which takes me to places I've never thought of going to before

enough for now I reckon

As you're braodly in my neck of the woods may I draw your attention to the delights of FNRttC which could suit you down to the ground if you fancy a night of 'different' cycling with like minded souls and forumites
