The front mech on my 12 year old Cannondale is playing up a bit recently. Some changes need almost teasing from cog to cog rather than the usual one flick....if that makes sense! I even managed to take the chain off the granny ring this morning trying to change? (a ring I'm unfamiliar with of course - it's like new!)

Is it more likely to be the front mech or could it be the STI levers? - I'm asking before I start tinkering for hours with something that's working fine.

Or is it likely a part needs replacing?

On anything other than reasonably straight forward bike maintenance I rapidly run out of knowledge so any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

My first thought would be cable tension and the H +L limiters. That said if the bike has the original shifter cable then after 12 years it may well be worth replacing in the process.

Doesn't sound like anything two serious and nothing that some applied used of screwdrivers, pliers and lube will not resolve.

Let us know how you get on.
