This is one of those questions that has probably been asked before and could well be in the wrong forum but here I go. I am going on holiday and we are going to have to carry lots of stuff. For the sake of balance I want to put some of it on the front. Ideally one of those nice low rider mounted panniers jobs. However my hybrid hasn't got the mounts on the forks to accommodate them. Is there a work round so I can hang a small pair of panniers close to my front wheel?

On a related issue. Is there such a thing as a front pannier rack for a fork with suspension?

The trouble with racks that attach to the legs of suspension forks is that the unsprung weight of the luggage stops the suspension working properly.
Tubus used to sell a rack for suspension forks that attached at the fork crown, the "Swing", but gave up because forks became too variable. Have a look here http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/front-rack-and-carbon-rigids . If it looks like it will fit, you could try looking for a one on eBay.

I know this is very much a matter of personal taste, and marginally off topic, but I think I ought to mention the alternative to front panniers/rack. If you invest the cost of front panniers and rack in more compact and lighter gear (sleeping kit is often the best place to do this), ijn many circumstances you will not need your front rack and paniers anymore. That at least is what I discovered to my great relief. It saved me almost 5 kg without any drop in comfort. In fact, the gain in comfort on long and steep climbs was gigantic.

This is b_llocks. From time to time I fit a Tubus Ergo Low loader to the front forks of my Kona and the suspension works fine.

I have a Tubus Swing on my mountain bike which I use for off-road touring. It hasn't bothered me on the two recents tours I did with the bike on the Munda Biddi Trail here in Western Australia - Ride #3 and Ride #4.

Another possibility is the Thule Pack ’n Pedal rack (formerly the Freeloader rack).
