I am selling some kit to modify a Brompton to an 8 speed Alfine hub which is now surplus to requirement.
I am offering the following for sale:
A factory rear triangle in black, widened by Fudge Cycles in North London to be able to take a wheel with a standard 135mm hub. The rear triangle is approx 10 years old and has been given a respray recently. It is in very good condition but has the odd imperfection.
A Sun CR18 rim fitted around an 8 speed Shimano Afine hub. Hub is approx 9 years old and has done ~6000km and has had a recent oil change. A 16T rear sprocket is fitted which if I recall is as small as can be installed. There is some minor tarnishing to the Sun rim (see pics) as seems common with these.
8 speed Alfine shifter, note the dial display has some hazing/ hairline cracking, no idea why, but can be replaced cheaply if desired, again see pics.
I will supply the various nuts and bolts to attach the hub to the frame that I used, you may need different fixings.
Needless to say you would need to be competent to install this kit yourself. Your existing rear triangle would need to be taken off, relevant parts swapped over to this triangle and wheel. Depending on your existing configuration you may need additional items such as a new chain tensioner and chain. I used the standard Brompton chain tensioner with a 102 link chain when mated to a 54T front chainring.
Irrespective of the hub, the widened triangle opens up the gateway to install a wheel with a hub of your choosing.
For this kit I’m asking £280 collected from St Albans AL3, sold as seen. I would consider posting at buyers cost once funds are cleared. Pics below. Also advertised elsewhere.
