It's simple, they're copying Margaret Thatcher.

Before the miner's strike she got the government to stockpile coal so the impact was less.

If the government encourage everyone to fill up their tanks then the impact is less.

Going to pick up my eldest from Aberystwth uni tomorrow, so popped into town to fuel up tonight.
Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco sold out. Checked three other garages withh the same result, thankfully Morrisons were just having a deliverey when I called there.

Finally admittted defeat yesterday and filled the car as that annoying warning light has been on since the weekend. Usual practice is to run it till nearly empty then brim it as the local Morrisons there is always a queue even in normal times and it means less visits to the pumps. Massive queues there last night so went to an independent, no queue but 3p a litre more - well worth the couple of extra £ for not lining up for the rest of the night and burning any savings whilst doing it.

Thing is, ok, the panic buying is happening but it is just to make sure cars are full. There's no one suggesting anyone is going to be using it any faster so it could well be quiet on the forecourts next week when the initial panic is over and everyone already has a full tank.

That's pretty much what I expect. I have enough fuel to get me to my Audax in Edinburgh this weekend, and prbably another 50-60 miles, so I should be sorted for a few weeks if needed to be (although having a car available would be easier)

Panic merchants were slowing by 9pm tonight round my area. So minimal queue and normal fill up.
Petrol station staff were fed up of it.
Was funny to watch Tesco tanker having to queue among the cars to fill up the petrol station's tanks.

Even though I need a car at the moment I'm like the non-car dependent guys - It just looks so silly to watch so many grown rational people behaving like this.

This is my third attempt at doing Colin's forum ride, first attempt bad weather, second attempt bad weather, third attempt weather good but can't get any fuel grrrr. Most of the people filling up in our little rural town think it's ok to drive no more than a mile to go to the shop, am proper fed up
